I saw it reviewd on newsnight recently. It's either 2009 French or Spanish film and involves a family living in a house haunted by a young child. It's not a blood a guts film but more of a psychological thriller. Anyone know what the name is?

There is a spanish film where a family (primarily the mother) is haunted by a ghost child. The orphanage, i might've been captain obvious with this one as it came out while i've been in Korea and have no idea of its cultural impact in blighty.

Yes that's the one. Thanks a lot matt0r.

The Orphanage is a good film! Saw it in the cinema with friends when it came out. Well worth watching.

Orphanage is 2008 though, I'm surprise they reviewed it recently, even on DVD. Also technically they weren't haunted by a ghost child in the story, although I have no intention of spoiling anything either!

Well id rather put the story loosely, than write the synopsis here. :p

Also, if you end up liking that film, try the "partner" film to it. The Devil's Backbone, finally got around to watching it the other day, very good also. :)

"The Devil's Backbone" is amazing.

However, "The Orphanage" is more of a sister film to "Pan's Labyrinth" than anything.

It's pretty much "Alice in Wonderland" to "The Orphanage"'s "Peter Pan".

Why is it the partner film to it?

This may not be the association you're making, but as an aside I'm sick of people saying that Del Toro [Cronos, Pan's Labyrinth] directed The Orphanage. Del Toro was only one of seven producers for The Orphanage. The film was the directorial debut of Juan Antonio Bayona.

However, "The Orphanage" is more of a sister film to "Pan's Labyrinth" than anything.

I see no correlation between the two films in terms of story, style, theme or setting.

I never said he directed it.

However, it is and has been said by Del Toro in interviews that he considers it so. I would not have mentioned it otherwise.
