Well I went and picked up my new motor today.

2002 Renault Sport Clio 172.

It's done 36,000 miles and is in amazing condition. 2 owners from new.

1st impressions -

Very comfy to drive, love the seats and the climate is nice.
Handling - very good, not as planted as the Saxo but it sticks to the road very well.
Performance - the best bit. I love how it pulls when you hit 4500 rpm.

It is certainly an upgrade from my VTS. It does not feel as fast but then you look at the dial and think, damn, i'm going very fast lol.

It's sitting in my mates garage at the moment as I have yet to transfer the insurance over from the VTS so no photo's yet;)

I've done 6,000 in 3 months. Too much for a Clio imo.

Yes, I scrapped the Clio idea as I fancy something well built and comfortable.

I'll buy anything aslong as it does not have a Peugeot, Citroen or Renault badge on the front.

I like the build quality in the VAG's

Does anyone on this forum put more than a passing moments thought into car choice these days or is buying a car the sort of thing you do in the same way you'd chose a breakfast cereal :p

Ah its not like its an asset that costs thousands of pounds and should last years.... oh, wait...

In fairness, if sounds like the OP just has a contradiction, not a nightmare finance deal on an expensive base model...

told ya ;)

thank goodness for that, no more spec me threads every week.

now to deal with helpmeimcrap, he's taken over :(

:p

It was a private sale.

The first owner did 4,000 in 2 years. The guy I got it from only uses it at weekends as his dad takes him to work and back (they work together).

I paid £3450 for it. It's in amazing condition and I drove my route to work on the way back averaging 38.5mpg.

I decided I wasn't ready for a diseasal. Many of the Golf's were chavved up or had over 150,000 on them. I'd then have to spend money remapping it, putting coilovers on and upgrading the ARB's. If I think a Clio 172 doesn't handle as well as my Saxo VTS the Golf would have been sold in a week after realising the handling is poor.

In the end I decided perhaps it was just best to find a decent 172.

Where's the fun in that :p ;)

Nice choice, look forward to pics. Didn't you fancy a lower spec 1.2 though, for slightly more money? :(

;)

Congratulations on having absolutely no decision making processes at all!

Enjoy it, but I fear that we will be seeing "spec me" threads in 6 months time when you realise that you are growing up and don't want a poorly built tin can anymore.

If you are planning on doing 24k/year in a Clio I pity you.

EDIT: In fact, if you are planning on doing 10k a year in a Clio I pity you.

It feels solid as a rock compared to the Saxo. No squeaks or rattles at all.

How you can say I had no decision making process makes me laugh.

It took me 8 months to choose which car to get. I test drove the Golf and after the first corner I wanted to get out. Considering it is supposed to have a "sports suspension" it was obviously not included on the one I drove as it rolled all over the place.

Cambelt been done? :P

No. Managed to haggle £400 off the price due to this and it is booked in for next Wednesday.

I will give Renault a bell later though just to see if they have any record of it being done as the previous owner purchased it from a main dealer last November.

Hopefully Renault will have done it.

so the first owner did 4000 miles in two years and the last owner got it from a main deeler in November so who owned it in between?
