I haven't seen the first two since they came out and I haven't seen the third at all, can barely remember what happens, I'm gonna watch them all this weekend. What does everyone think of them?

Bubbling pile of crap. In trying to create an epic feel to the films, they've lost the essence of the original 3 films, the sense of adventure and journey. Characters aren't interesting enough, and everything's all too predictable, poor performances generally and lack of chemistry between characters.

in their own right, not too bad.
in relation to 4-6, terrible.

3 i thought was rather good. nice and dark :]

The films went into a extremely steep decline after The Empire Strikes Back. I hated the Muppet show which was Return of the Jedi and the other three helpings were just CGI and what they could do with, very dull really.

Brilliant. Very world war 2. The rise of the Emperor, fall of democracy. The demise of the Jedi and the return of the Sith. It was very exciting. You just need to stop moaning and actually enjoy the movies. But off course it's cool to hate the same things everyone else hates.

Some of us can form an opinion for ourselves, thank you very much.

This. The problem was Episodes IV-VI had 20 years of nostalgia on its side. The acting/story for those wasn't actually all that grest but the fact that it was all so different and impressive made them so fantastic for everyone.

The Star Wars saga is probably my all time favourite films, seeing ep IV hundreds of times as a kid but I've enjoyed them all. Wasn't over keen on the young Anakin stuff in the first film but it did help tell an epic story. Episode III is my second fav following V.

Ug, they were very disappointing. Totally hollow films with no real soul, unlike the original trilogy. Whilst that has time on its side, it also feels like it was crafted with love and affection...unlike the prequels, which were crafted with just dinero in mind.

Boring, overcomplicated plotline, terrible (and actually hilariously bad acting), muddy script, and a total over-reliance on special effects. In fact, the special effects are really the only thing worth watching them for. And they are great; don't get me wrong, it's just a shame nothing else is.

They're worth seeing, but only so you can say you've seen 'em, you were disappointed, and you want to shove Lucas face-first down the nearest sarlacc pit.

hrmmm

i had this discussion many times

if i was a kid ( who i suspect these films ere aimed at ) i suspect i would have loved them

as a slightly older ;) star wars fan i felt let down ... kinda

it was still star wars but not the star wars i remember as a kid and perhaps that is the big thing -- being a kid vs being a grown up

damn you lucas u stole my childhood :P

They were terrible.

I went to watch all three of them in the cinema and I can say they enter a category of mine called 'won't be watching again'. Seriously, I really would not waste my time watching these ever again, they were tacky and lacked any depth.

Only the third comes close to not being bad.

They are ok - number 3 venturing near the good even but not a patch on the original trilogy and that includes those damn ewoks!

I agree, 3 is the best of them, but saying that they're still fairly rubbish, not as good as the proper ones

They looked horrible and utterly sterile. You had no feeling of a living breathing world. The performances were very flat indeed, and the guy who played anakin was utterly dreadful. He pretty much ruined any chance of the second and third being watchable for me.

An absolutely horrible steaming pile of crap, tbh. I simply can't be bothered spending the time dissecting each one right now, so stick to the original. In a nutshell, Lucas got far too big for his boots and almost destroyed a franchise. I've yet to find a Star Wars lover who can keep from shaking in their boots as they try to defend these.

Did anyone here see star wars first time round back in 1976?

I've just seen the original trialer on youtube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9gvqpFbRKtQ and was wondering how it seemed. I was born in 76 so never knew a life without Star Wars. What was it like for those of you older ones when Star Wars first came out in 1977?

I remember watching it with my dad when i was 6, the feeling at that time was weird, so many people lined up day after day around the cinema to watch it. You couldnt go anywhere or watch anything on tv without seeing something about it but you never got tired of the magic of it.
It really was like you see on the old news clips, it was a phenomenon unlike anyone had ever seen.
