Hi
I'm new to the hdmi stuff and have just purchased for my daughter a samsung T220HD LCD/ Monitor
She also has been bought a computer which has hdmi input on the back (AM2+ with integrated HDMI/DVI/VGA Graphics - MATX)

At the moment it's connected using the old blue type cable (analogue?)

What is the correct way to set it up? Cheers

There is also another blue connection /video and dvi slot at the bottom of the pc (vid card? graphics card?)

Graphics card is 512MB ATI Radeon HD4350

Oh one other thing, the dvi slot at the bottom of the pc seems to need a female connector?
Basically like this

ok you will need a hdmi cable plus that in back of pc and into tv job done, get a good quality cable if you can you get piture ect thats the best way or hdmi to dvi cable

I believe you can get a converter for Dvi-D to HDMI, plug from the Graphics cards DVI port to the tv's hdmi. Job done.

It might be that the dedicated graphics (HD3450) card is stopping you from using the onboard graphics. When you plugged in the "blue" connection before, was you using the one on the dedicated graphics card, or the one on the back panel I/O port location?

cheers.
So I can't get a dvi-dvi cable and go straight from the tv to the pc? Or is it better to go hdmi?
Also which dvi plug do I go to on the pc as there is two? (pic above now updated)

It was the lower one (I think on the video card?)

cheers.

As fobose said adding the graphics card most likely disables the on board ports. So go with the one on the card.

so that thing at the bottom is my graphics card? (told ya I haven't got a clue)

So I get a dvi- dvi lead and go from tv - dvi slot on graphics card (which needs a female in)

or

do I go from tv's hdmi socket to the vid cards dvi-d using a converter?

Thanks for the help

Go from your 4350 -> DVI-HDMI convertor dongle (that hopfuly came with the card) -> HDMI to TV

What about getting sound through the dedicated graphics card -> TV? Does he need to plug a cable from the motherboard in to the dedicated graphics card to get the sound over the HDMI cable?

Nope, nothing else came with the card. All I have is like the pictures above!
I have hdmi cables and that is it (aquired from virgin media)
The reason I'm asking all these questions id so I can go get the correct cable!

The tv has many slots for cables (hdmi, dvi-d, pc/audio?)

Thanks

May I ask what the computer is going to be used for? Dare I say it....you could always remove the dedicated graphics card and just use on the onboard graphics HDMI port, and connect that to the TV.

To be honest sims 3 wouldn't work on her old one so we got this machine as the spec looks really good for the cash.
She also watches her dvds though the pc so a good picture is a must.

So am I right in thinking the graphics card is now like the master? and thats why the monitor won't work when connected to the normal back?

So is using the hdmi slots better than using the dvi-d slots? If not then can I just get a cable that goes from tv dvi-d to pc graphics card dvi-d (female)?

I am pretty sure this is why.

The only reason I am leaning towards the onboard HDMI port is because it should just play the sound through the TV using the one HDMI cable (as well as the video).

If you use the DVI port on the graphics card as it is, I think that you will only get video, unless you plug an audio cable in to the back of the PC and connect it to the TV.

That said, I am pretty sure your dedicated graphics card supports HDMI over DVI, but I am not 100% how this works. I think you need to connect a cable from the motherboards SPDIF connector to the graphics card, but as I said I am not 100% sure.

ok cheers for the help.

A Technition at my wifes work says to go from tvs div-d to the vid cards div-d. now it looks like I need a male in for the tv and a female in for the pc. But some sites say a basic male - male lead will fit in the pc's slot!

cheers for all the help guys!
