Brands?

It's come to my attention I see the prestige of brands differently to other people, whether this is OCUK making me hate Vauxhall or the fact I've had nothing but trouble and bad service from my local VW garage. So I'd like to see how other people view brands, basically just order all the major car brands from top to bottom. Obviously couldn't do all of them and stuff like Kia's are given to be pretty low.

Porsche
BMW
Merc
Jaguar
Alfa
Audi
Ford
Honda
Fiat
Toyota
Lexus
VW
Seat
Mazda
Mini
Volvo
Hyundia
Renault
Skoda
Nissan
Saab
Citreon
Peugeut
Vauxhall

Everyone is placed for a different reason, I've seen first hand how bad Peugeut's can be and thus they are so low, and the Nissan's I've been in have been horrible cars. I've never been in a Volvo and hate the look of their estate cars but they are still midtable because of saloons and the whole saftey thing.

How are you rating them? In terms of quality, reliability, customer service, what?

Everything, basically my opinion of the brand.

This can be BMW being high because of the engines, Alfa being reasonably high because of the styling, Vauxhall being bottom because of the old shape Corsa and new shape Astra imo being two of the most horrible cars ever and having the worse interiors ever.

Porsche being high because of the whole style and brand appeal. Toyato because I always touch type it wrong etc...

is this list based on build quality, reliability or perceived prestigeness, if its any of the 3 fiat needs to be near the bottom

anyway my list on prestigeness/build

Seat
Skoda

Interesting excercise. I note you rank Toyota above Lexus, which would dissapoint their marketing people a little since Lexus is Toyota's premium brand.

Also interesting to see Saab and Volvo fall from grace in your eyes. I agree with them no longer being much cop, but once upon a time they were considered up there close to the likes of Audi.

Yeah I'm aware Lexus are the premium Toyota brand but I don't really like them. I think Toyota make very good reliable cars, if a bit boring, where as Lexus just make very meh cars, not much bad about them but not much good. That's just my personal view on the brand.

Saab because the 9-3 and 9-5 are getting pretty old now and have fallen behind the market leaders.

Have you owned a car from everyone of those manufacturers, Peerzy?

No, that's not the point. It's my view on the brand. Have you owned a Kia and a Lambo? I doubt it, yet in your mind a Lambo would be a better car and a Kia would be cheap tat before even knowing the cars.

It's on your personal opinion of the brand, this should include; engines, build quality, styling, price, relaibility, dealers you've dealt with literally everything.

It's how you perceive the brand as a whole, you're not being asked to make a judgement on a car.

So no I've not owned a car from every brand, but could justify why each brand is in it's current location on my rankings.

Of course it is all based on personal opinion, but sometimes a car company can really turn things around one way or the other, normally as a result of merger or aquisition.

Saab for example, IMO have fallen from grace since their ownership by GM (although the early 90s 900 wasn't so bad). When I started driving they made cars that were quick and quirky and had a pedigree of making some beautiful cars in the past.

Skoda is the polar opposite for me. When I was getting my license, you wouldn't touch a Skoda with a bargepole. The butt of everyone's motoring jokes were aimed at Skoda or Lada (and look at Lada now compared to Skoda!). Under VW ownership, they've turned around decent cars, and more importantly changed people's perception of the brand, which was no easy task IMO.

Thats a pretty bizarre opinion, there isn't a single Toyota on the UK market that is better than a similar Lexus

If a Lexus IS250 is 'meh' (I'm not going to disagree) what does that make a Toyota Avensis!

porsche's customer service has thus far impressed me, but then I would expect it to as they are essentially fast & pretty VW's

ferrari's is awful, but then they are just pretty & fast fiats so thats expected too

Your positioning of Vauxhall and the french cars above Volvo makes me sad.

Like I said, it's based on cars I've owned or driven for a considerable time.

The current Peugeot 306 I have, while a good A to B car (50+mpg to & from work)
I wouldn't rate it above the 2008 1.9 Diesel Vectra I had which was a great car IMO.
