Just been out shopping with my mum, coming down to a t junction. Slow down, clutch in before I stop, put it in first gear. Look left, look right, look left again (¬_¬), see a car on the right, but still plenty of time for me to pull out, nothing to worry about. Start to pull out. Suddenly the car doesn't pull away as I expected... Turns out I'm in third. The car is now nearly upon me and I only just manage to get out of the way in time.

I'm such a clot.

So, what else have people done that makes them look silly?

Sun in My eyes at some traffic lights when turning off.

Girl Friend Screams LOOK OUT!!!

I think someone run a light while im turning so i nail it.

Just to get yelled at again for almost mowing down a couple of people she was yelling at me to look out for :o

I was in a courtesy Automatic that was giving me some grief. Was getting out of a space and checked behind me, and wanted to start reversing, wasnt in the gear I thought it was and looked at gear lever, put it in and started reversing slowly, in those 2 seconds some woman + pram + kids started walking behind me and almost got crushed :o

This happened to me in the Civic ages ago but the difference in my incident was that the car swiped my front bumper snapping it off the hinges!!

I managed to sort the bumper out by buying a used one in good condition for £45 from breakerlink and fitting it myself, good old snap on Honda parts :D

The other guy had scratches down his pas side so I gave him my insurerance details.

Lesson learnt :p

I once lifted off mid corner in my Civic VTi doing an indicated 120mph... Thought I saw an animal coming out of a hedge. That was, shall we say, interesting

What? When you're stationary and not moving? Surely it doesn't matter which way you look first?
Think about it.

Take two identical situations where you're sat at a T-junction. In the first one, you go right, left, right, then move out. As your last look is to the right, when you're starting to move, this means you won't pull out into a car that's going to smash into your driver side door.

In the second you go left, right, left, then move out. If you move having looked left, someone from the right can just be appearing. If they do, they'll hit you in the driver side door.

2 benefits to it:

- You encounter danger from the right hand side about 0.5-1 second earlier than the left (depending on acceleration). So you're considering the more immediate danger first.
- If you get hit, it's likely to be on the passenger side driver door which is far, far less likely to seriously injure or kill you.

Always told you, should've got some pest control on that track of yours.

Err... if the car on the right was just appearing, it'd have been about half a mile away at the t junction I'm on about.

Stop reading too much into things. It depends on the road, the conditions, and too many other things to mention. When I said I looked left, looked right and left again, I wasn't implying that that is what I do on every single road at every single junction ever.

I may look left, look right, look left and look right again. I may do it the other way. Depends on the road. Stop being a bore. I bet you're a member of or wanting to be a member of the IAM. Do you shuffle your grip when turning? Ten to two at all other times? Stoppit. :p

Hahaha :D

It's one of the few things I always adhere to from my instruction, actually. For a lot of the time my driving style is... 'relaxed'.

Holiday abroad.

Come up behind a police car that is crawling along and hugging the kerb. Start to overtake. Almost level. They decide to turn right. :o

Luckily it was just a hire car... and they demanded a bribe and forgot all about it.

man the amount of people that do that to me is averaging about 3 a week when driving back from work.

One stage I used to just let it go but now I just blast em, 90% of the time they just slow down even more then look round like they haven't got a clue what they did wrong.

At the end of my driving test while parking I almost hit the bollard in front of the space because i went in too fast, i was about 3 cm away from it, i got my 4th minor for doing that :( I always wonder what would have happened if i had hit the bollard and damaged the car.

Ok, most stupid/embarrassing moment has to be when I got lost down a back lane in Tamworth and decided to do a quick 3 point turn and head back. Turned out the overgrown grass on the verge was hiding a concrete Hydrant marker post, it ripped half the brackets off my back bumper when I hit it. On the plus side though, I mainly only caught the mudflap so the bumper came out of it unscathed.
