Asus P6T and LGA775 heatsink

The P6T SE has holes for both LGA1366 and LGA775 heatsinks.

Most of the heatsinks recommended for i7 cooling won't fit my case (Cosmos S - 145 mm max), so I was thinking about getting a Zalman CNPS9700-LED LGA775 heatsink.

Can I safely assume any LGA775 heatsink will fit snugly on top of my i7-920 - I'm worried that since LGA775 was designed for Core2, the chips may have been different sizes and not baseplates will match i7?

Any thoughts appreciated.

LGA1366 is physically larger and the mounting holes are different too

The P6T SE has holes for both LGA1366 and LGA775 heatsinks.

From my experience, the baseplates on socket 775 coolers are always a fair bit bigger than the actual CPU heatspreader size.

I'm not sure how well the 9700 will do at cooling though, in comparison to a 'proper' i7 HS such as a Noctua or Titan Fenrir. There's a bloke on here with an AC F7 Pro on his i7, and it runs very toasty even at stock speeds.

The P6T has both sets of mounting holes so that's not an issue.

Thanks, I'll try and track down his posts to see what sort of temps / OC he's got. My main worry is that the baseplates will mismatch the i7 heatspreader leaving hotspots around the edge.

I take your point that proper i7 sinks will be better - trouble is they're all 150mm+

cheers
