Tom.

Probably the ST, I absolutely adore my mates and the tuneability of them. It's an absolute hoot to drive fast and turbo doesn't get boring. 330i is a comfortable wafter which is still fun to drive fast but a different machine with different power delivery. Going from the Clio I'd definitely say the ST with Dream Sci. Unless you want something completely different?

Plus I've always had a thing for the Focus, I skipped the ST170 though as they're well fairly slow and drink like fish.

what? it's only done 107k? and OBVIOUSLY motorway miles so I dont quite get your comment :s my car has done 130k now and it still runs perfectly, so a newer car that has only done 107k of blatantly motorway miles will be fine.

So consumerable parts will be comparible on this vs a car with 20k?

Not to mention trying to get a warranty for it should it go wrong vs a car prob in manufacturers warranty for the same budget :)

A car with 20k will be £5k more and won't cost £5k less to run.

I run a high mileage x30i without a warranty. I worked out the other day that had I renewed BMW warranty every year it would have cost more than fixing the broken stuff*

*Last time I bragged about breaking stuff my car exploded, literally, the next day. I better keep my RAC card close this week.

generally speaking a car that has done 25k motorway miles a year will need less consumables than a 10k around town a year car, so yes.

Also, who cares about the warranty they're not supercars, if you can afford to spend 10k on a car you can fix most things that'd go wrong with one of these

Going to have to agree to disagree then :D

£12k cash IMO would not be thrown at a 107k miler car by a sensible person. Only by someone who got a loan and bought on impulse because on the face of it's cheap.

Hmmm, speaking as a Focus driver, if it were my hard earned I'd probably plump for the Beemer.

That said, 86k in my ST3 have simply been a pleasure, im not sure what extra the BMW 330i would add in day to day pleasure, on a track yeah the 330 would trounce it.Plus the engine note on that 5 pot is fantastic.

The interior has been fantastic, no squeeks and rattles, not the most exciting dash, but lets face it, the 330 dash isnt much to write home about. But there is something special about the E46 coupe, E90 is fugly, but the E46 is simply sublime, I'd get the very best E46 you could get your hands on.

Why? because its done 107k?

In this day & age, tbh, a sensible person is the sort who only buys - with his own money - something thats done 100k or above.

You'd have to be very unlucky indeed to buy a 100k mile car that over say 3 years costs as much to keep on the road as the cost of buying something newer, with a warranty but a higher purchase price thats lost via depreciation.

Does that make sence? :o

Would you buy a car that's done 80k, all motorway miles, or 100k all motorway miles? (assuming the cambelts etc had been changed on both).

I'm not disagreeing, you can get some bargains if you go above the 100k milestone but at the same time, it is a bit of a daft statement if you don't factor in the price of the vehicles :p

EDIT: Heh, you changed your post befre I replied. Ignore!
