Im interested in a nice civic after i finish uni, not a new one the latest they did the version i like was the 2001 i believe and the shape is called eg9, ill be 23-24 with 4ncb by then so hopefully able to insure something pretty fast, all the engines i can see are 1.6 VTI s, pretty quick at 7.7s says parkers, what would you be looking at picking up a decent one of these for, and im not sure if im write in saying that 1.6 was the biggest displacement they did.

Is there such thing as a nice Civic that isnt a Type-R? Not sure there is, really. The regular models are just cheap nasty plastic hatchbacks with ridiculous insurance premiums and bizarre popularity amongst chavs.

There are better cars out there.

i dont like those, i like the eg9 if im gettimg the model its long with a simple spoiler on the boot.

VTi is the top model in that shape I think. Dont know if they made them as late as 2001 though?

Will be the 1.6 160bhp engine (b16a)

edit. It'll be an eg9.

Looks like something you'd trade in under the scrappage scheme :/

each to there own but i like it, pretty standard nothing outrageous, i dont like your bmw so we are square.

Errr hang on a sec.

You are currently 21. This thread is about buying a 10-15 year old Honda when you are 24.

IN THREE YEARS TIME?!? You need 3 years to plan the purchase of a 500 quid honda?! I know we've been having a few people on this forum not really taking enough time to make big car decisions lately but are you going for polar opposite or what!

They are all 1992-1995 cars, they cost a few hundred quid, if you want one just buy one now, doubt there will be any left in 3 years time. The way this thread is worded it was as if you were planning the purchase of an R34 Skyline or something :p

These cars are cheap to run and reliable.

I don't know what's the demand for LHD ones, but here, cars like corolla's and civics, especially the non small hatchback models, go away for 1000-1750 euro for the export to Africa and the middle east. You're better off selling them, even in **** poor condition than scrapping them under the scrappage sceme. As long as they drive...

EDIT: hmmmm, seems civics are worth a bit less then corolla's, still they are all worth over a thousand here.

I have a friend who is utterly obsessed with his civic. He's spent an absolute fortune on a new exhaust which sounds idiotic, suspension, couple of body mods. While it admitedly does look nice I just don't understand how he can justify spending £4k or so on a Civic + mods at age 17. He doesn't go out and do social things because he spends all his money on his car.

He's obsessed with "JDM" and it does my nut in.

The worst thing is he plans to keep it for like 7 years and do an engine swap... What is it with people wanting to do engine swaps on their first cars? Buy something better...

Good luck getting a B engined Civic for 500, even a knackered rust-bucket EF model will cost you double that.

good choise mate, civics are stunning i love mine even though its only a 1.4

even though fox is so anti honda he is right about the insurance, its stupid prices but it worth it in my books :)

Because they look nice?

Imo 90's civics look better than 75% of the junk on the roads today. In fact, the car fleet used to look nicer in the 90's and early 2000's. These days all you see is city car crap. I mean, I look out of my window and see rubbish like Nissan Note, a new Ford Fiesta, Seat Ibiza, Ford Fusion, etc... I miss the days of it being filled with old japanese cars, mondeo's, a4's, escorts, etc... I really hate cars that have their arse hacked off and ridiculous looking headlights.

Just becasue something isn't your bag doesn't mean you have to **** all over someone elses thread and offer 0 constructive input.

The EG and EK Civics have a great following due to a weath of upgrade/modding options and cheap parts, not that they go wrong all that much. They can also be made to handle & go well and looks decent enough.

Not every needs to drive something unceessary for their needs and spend £££ in the process, especially when you're ust out of uni and trying to find work in a **** economy but want something you're interested in.

You're not going to find something decent for anything less than £1500 I'd expect, but due to a good following you might get one that someones had a bit of work done on it. I'd register on a few civic forums and see what's going for sale to see what you can get. Just ignore the people that don't get it on here, they'll go all out to mock it but at the end of the day you buy what YOU want so long as you've done the research and know what you're buying into.

Yeah if mechanically you can do a lot of the work yourself amongst you and your friends like me.

Then it’s best to buy just shell like I have

I currently own an EG shell that I’m stripping out, I bought the 1.3 EG which is the smallest engine size they do and it seems to be the cheapest. I got mine for £200

Currently I’m just saving for an engine swap for a B18 which I’ll be fitting when I can afford it.

But as Dup has said, get yourself on the civic forums mate you can learn a lot on there.
