Afternoon folks,

Have a bit of an issue,

Got a customer which has a HP Proliant 330 Generation 3..it only has USB 1.1

The tape drive seems to be giving up which is a SCSI one and ideally I wanted to install a USB one, however the HP one I found is highspeed USB 2.0..

Im sure it will work on 1.1 but will be deaaaaaad slow!

Now im thinking of getting a PCI Expansion card for the customer so I can install this card internally with 2.0 slots and bang my problem solved...

Only issue is all the internal cards I see have compatibilities for everything but Windows 2003 SBS Server..:( I dont want to take the risk just getting it as I am going onsite to install a new tape..

Has anyone had same issue or can recommend me a USB 2.0 Expansion PCI card thats compatible with the Windows 2003 SBS os...?

Thanks a much

I would have thought that any that supports Windows XP will run perfectly fine on Server 2k3.. Just make sure its a decent brand one! :)

I've never had a problem installing hardware that isn't listed as Server compatible but is listed as XP compatible. They use the same drivers usually.

If its compatible with Windows 2003 it'll work on SBS, its the same thing.

Why are you using a USB one though - are the SCSI ones more expensive?

i know someone who does a fair amount of work with sbs, and they come across this problem sometimes, whenever i've spoken to him he always recommends the belkin pci cards for usb 2.0 support - usually for retrofitting things like rd1000 units into servers. hope this helps! :)

haha, well there is always that lol

i've purely gone on his previous experience, and that is that he hasn't had any issues with the ones he has installed...

there are certainly pieces of equipment from that brand that i dont like too though lol

Yeh I'm sure stuff like that is fine as they wont actually manufacture the chipset. We've got a few Belkin KVMs at work and they're just horrible
