PS3s locked away from UK prisoners

we should put loads of exorcise bikes in prisons and instead of them being sentenced to so many years it should be so many miles.

These bike have then got a dyno on them and they generate power, solving the issue of keeping the busy and solving the UK's energy issues. They can then be released once they have complete the set amount of miles.

This also has the added benefit of them not fighting as they'll be too tried to do anything!!

Job done :)

You have my vote :D

The removal of Hard Labour as a sentence changed the nature of prison society for the worse.
There is no punishment now with the exclusion of boredom.
Prisoners who were shattered froma long hard days work, didn't
a. go insane
b. riot

It worked then it would work now, and stuff aorund the country would get done.
Escapees to be shot on sight.
Job done.

I agree - There should be 3 options:
work in chain gangs cleaning the streets, digging roads etc.
work studying (hard, 8b hours a day) to get degree level educations
sit in a cell with absolutely nothing to do - and I mean nothing.

im a prison officer, this isnt new news, its been like this for ages the only console that they are allowed is the ps2

As you have the experience, is the bit below from the website article:

It is however not the first time that the Sony console has run into a little trouble inside, with the Playstation 2 banned from UK prisons in 2006 because inmates were using them to watch porn.

A load of BS?

Because from the article they were saying about using PS3 to communicate outside yet the first thing I thought of is "Surely the 360 can do that too?".

Therefore I would agree that they should be limited to the old school consoles with no networking capability and DVD players.

Although from what I understood DVD players were allowed so surely they could watch porn on those?

The article was UK based and not USA wasn't it? That could be a difference I suppose.

Keeping prisoners occupied stops them a) going insane and b) causing riots, so there is a simple argument for their being able to have gaming consoles/televisions etc.

Prisoners who have to stew with nothing to do tend not to behave themselves and therefore compromise their own rehabilitation, as well as the safety of prison staff and other inmates.

If it would compromise their rehabilitation surly they are not ready for release?

Cat d prisoners have always had it easy
Cat c prisoners, low grade crimes, it's getting to be a doss.
Cat a & b, your brain eating cannibals, child torturing rapists, terrorists etc. get treated like **** still, understandably.

This is according to some crackhead looking bloke I met down the pub by the way, he'd just got out of a 5 stretch.

Chain them together, give each man a spade, and take them out digging roads. There, occupied.

There are so many ways that prisoners can be occupied whilst giving back to society. Playing on the latest consoles is not one of them. I'd love to be able to sit arround all day, playing games! No element of Prisoin should be enjoyable. Is it any wonder that nearly half of all prisoners on probation reoffend? They won't be able to afford the luxuries on the outside they've become acustomed to!

Excuse me, but that would go against their human rights! Working? I DON'T THINK SO! ;)
These poor prisoners just want a quiet life playing PS3's, taking it easy, then reoffending for a return trip. Any sort of hard labour would cause stress, and just be plain unfair.
I for one am glad that our taxes get spent on furnishing criminal scum with luxuries. Meanwhile, I'll just be poor and unable to afford stuff. Could go out robbing I suppose?
