wow!

DRM free downloads (can still use them even after you stop subscribing to the service)

this is the sort of service I'd love to have, I really hope TV series can be offered in this way too before long

if everyone pays a reasonable monthly fee, say £10-15 per customer a month, it would be win/win for everyone

It's a great idea, but for anything like this to work, it has to have pretty much every song you could find through piracy, in high quality and with good speeds.

If the selection is limited, and you still have to source some of your songs from other sources the whole idea will fall apart.

They will all have to sign up to the one scheme for the one price, if there's competing options, with each covering different labels then it's going to have a lot of troubles.

Piracy provides a "one stop shop" for music like this, pretty much any song you want in any quality can be found, a service that will actually effectively combat piracy (obviously some people will still refuse to pay for music) will have to be at least as good at providing music to make it worthwhile.

But hopefully this would encourage other labels to do this.

exactly

piracy is ever evolving, and ultimately cannot be stopped.

a cheap and easy to use solution with a massive selection is how they should do it.

This is an ok idea but unless it's available for all media produced anywhere in the world then there's always going to be people who want stuff which isn't on it so look for it elsewhere.

For me to use it over normal purchasing (I don't buy masses of music) it would need to be a blanket on pretty much any song that's produced.

Exactly. Make stuff cheap enough, and quick enough and in theory it will reduce the amount of piracy.

Either way seems like a nice service...

Not a chance, due to compatibility issues.

Uncompressed wav then. everyone can convert it to whatever they want then.

I dont think it will work, a lot of stuff i listen to isnt available in shops and some even online shops. what i would pay for is uncompressed live recordings at festivals and club nights
