iPhone 3.0 - eating battery doing nothing?

I don't see the need to rush into 3.0 unless you are a Dev. Hell I wont update

to 3.0 until there is a proper jailbreak released by the Dev Team.

3.0 brings a lot of nice things but there are still plenty of stuff I cant do without that a jailbreak will cure.:D
 
As GM does actually stand for 'Gold Master' this ~should~ be the version released to the public on release day.

Doesn't bother me as I'm on the dev program anyways, but still.
 
I've had mine installed for nearly a week now, been very stable and overall quite good, its noticeably quicker in opening apps etc and I've not had any Safari crashes yet.

I really wish they would allow more themes and background images within the menu system, the default theme is getting quite boring now, and having a black background is quite dull. Hopefully it wont take long to jailbreak this.

The new scrubbing feature in the iPod is a welcome addition to me, I often listen to long dj sets and previously it was a nightmare trying to skip forward or back a minute or so, this is a much better system.

Overall apart from search (which doesnt appear to search text messages) and a couple of tweaks here and there I cant see a lot on the surface that differs from 2.x, I wont ever use MMS but its good to know its there. Actually just remembered copy/cut/paste which is very useful at last and quite easy to use, so there is that.

They did say in the original keynote that it would reduce battery by about 20% i belive was the number but it will reduce it, I never got two days from my iphone even on standby and I have had 9 3G's (with various build quality and screen issues) all had the same battery life of 1.5 days intermittent low use with low screen brightness and 3g on, wifi on makes no difference in my experience.

I just hope it lasts to the end of they day as i charge it nightly.

Really? I get a solid 3 days out of mine, 4 with liberal useage.

I took it on a trip to france and forgot my charger - it finally died 4 days later on the motorway home, and I'd been using it quite a bit - texting, phoning the mrs on an evening, internet useage and even google maps to plot biking routes.

I don't belive it, I mean I belive you just for example my phone died today after 24 hrs without charge screen brightness at 25% no wifi or 3g and little use. This is normal on all the iPhones I have had.
 
3-4 days?! I'm lucky to get 24hours. I have mine in the dock at work and at home most times so I don't notice now but I used to have the phone regularly die overnight on me
 
Yep, 3 days is standard for mine. I guess it depends on useage.

Thinking back last month, I took the kids camping on a Friday, used the iPhone for nightly calls to the mrs, took about 30 photos, and a small amount of net useage and checking emails. I don't even have a car charger and the phone was still just in the green when we came home on Monday.

On the other hand the gps kills it really quickly. Tried the mapmyride app when mountain biking and phone was dead in 4 hours.

In normal daily use I have it constantly charging in the dock as it looks nice rather than just being left on my desk.

Pretty sure my business partner gets similar life on his.

Just taken a look at my settings and I have:

Brightness - auto
Location services - on
Bluetooth - off
Wireless - on
Push/fetch - manual
 
You actually save battery by having a fixed brightness, don't you?

My thinking is that the extra cpu cycles used to operate light sensor and moderate the intensity are wasted.

In fact, I find the auto brightness terrible anyway. I currently get 3 or 4 days from the iPhone 3G running 2.x
 
Battery life on the iphone has always been poor for me.. but I have never been in a position that it is likely to run out, my pc, work pc and bedroom all have a charging point. All i need now is one in my car, which really isn't needed as I am barely in there.
