Hi

Just a quick query regarding high street shops and supermarkets return policies on electrical goods. Does anyone who works for one of these large retailers know if they have any sort of 14 days no questions ask money refund policy? Things like if the box has been opened and the item used will the not give a refund etc?

So for example if i was to walk into Tesco and buy a video camcorder, would i then be able to walk in 3 days later after using it and get a refund? If the camera didn't suit my needs or something else.

No there is no refund policy if you don't like the item you have bought. Some shops ie. M&S will give refunds but they are under no legal obligation to do so.

Tesco will let you change your mind with no fuss, I think its upto 28 days.

There is a difference between the stores policy and what is legal.
When you walk into a store and buy something there is no returns policy.
Of course if the item is damaged or faulty then that is different.
However once you've walked out with something, should you decide it isn't for you, not what you wanted, etc then the store do not have to offer you any kind of return at all.

Many stores will, but really you must check the T&C before making the purchase.
There is no "try before you buy" usually - even distance selling regulations are designed to give you the same ability to "look" at something in the same way you could look at something in a store.
It isn't a try before buy regulation.
