Both cards are 9600GTs

1)
Core Clock: 725MHz
Shader Clock: 1625MHz
Memory Clock: 2000MHz
512MB GDDR3
£100~
2)
Core Clock: 650MHz
Shader Clock: 1625MHz
Memory Clock: 1600mhz
1024MB GDDR2
£70~

Now the first one has faster clocks but the 2nd one has more memory, I can't see how there can be that much between the 2 that would make £30 difference.
Resolution I'm running at is 1440x900 if that makes any difference.

*Edit* Also if anyone has any recommendations of a better card for about the same money. Has to be a single slot cooler though.

Ah that looks a good option, but what about the XFX 4850, same 512mb memory and slightly faster clocks for £20 less? why is the sapphire priced so much higher?

XFX

Yo casey its |UKMD|dirt, what card you got at the moment? That will give us a good idea of whats going to get you a decent boost for the right ££.

Hey Dirt

I have a 8800GS 384MB at the moment.

@ LoadsaMoney: How do you know the XFX 4850 is a dual slot cooler, I can't tell from the pictures and it doesn't mention anywhere in the description?

In fact I found it says this:
Featuring a full TeraFLOP of compute power, the XFX Radeon HD 4850 is true power player. The SINGLE slot design enables easy three- and four-way CrossFire assembly. Play the most intense games with a graphics card that knows how to conserve energy while delivering optimum performance.

So with this in mind is the XFX 4850 the best single slot card I can get for £100 or less? At £86 it does seem nicely priced and has the fastest clocks out of all the single slot cards.

Oh I see you point, it does seem to be dual slot from those reviews, unfortunately overclockers picture ain't as clear.

Will give them a ring about it in the morning and if not, I'll be getting the sapphire version everyone else has recommended.

*Edit* yeah cheers LoadsaMoney I may have to get a sapphire as it doesn't look good, although now maybe you should remove the link due to the naughty word.

Id ask them about that Sapphire to, as im sure someone on here said they got the Sapphire, and it wasn't that reference cooler that was on it, may have been a dual slot also.

EDIT: That sites fine btw, been posted many a time on here, and i removed it due to the above post showing reviews. :p

as a fall back the Zotac GeForce 9800 GT Eco @ £81 seems to be a single slot card and will be much better than the 9600 if you can' get a 4850

For what it's worth, I've got 2 single slot coolers from my 4850s that I'd be happy to put on the member's market if you wanted it. You could get any 4850 as long as it's the reference design and throw that on it.
