Whats with people promoting slave labour all of a sudden.

As for people saying give them books. Whats the difference between books, tv and games consoles?

I bet there are prisoners that enjoy books more than consoles. Should they only be allowed consoles as punishment now?

Prisoners who have to stew with nothing to do tend not to behave themselves and therefore compromise their own rehabilitation, as well as the safety of prison staff and other inmates.

Well no wonder our prison system is a total failure then, it should be about changing their ways and punishment not keeping the inmates subdued with entertainment until their sentence is up.

Why not just bring back whipping and cutting off limbs then. Thats punitive punishment as well. Oh wait we draw a line at physical torture that is obvious. Slave labour is subtle enough to be okay.

I'm glad ocuk don't run our prison systems. They fail to realise that not everyone in prison is a mruderer, rapist or peadophile.

Have different levels of prisoners? Some get to do sewing, others get to shovel tranches looking for oil in the tundra.

Christ, don't be such a drama queen. We all work for a living, why can't prisoners work to pay of there debt??

Costs more to provide security than to just hire some oen to do it?

Plus it puts non criminals out of work.
