It had to be done really. :p

In anticipation of the 3.0 Firmware launch tomorrow I thought I would start this thread so all the discussion is in one place.

All the info can be found here.

For those that don't know, here's a run-down of the new features we're going to see:

  • Cut, Copy & Paste
    Quickly and easily cut, copy and paste text from application to application. Select entire blocks of web text with a tap. Copy and paste images from the web, too.
  • Landscape Keyboard
    Want more room to type? Rotate iPhone to landscape to use a larger keyboard in Mail, Messages, Notes and Safari.
  • MMS
    Send MMS messages and include video, photos, audio and contact info. Even tap to snap a picture or shoot a video right inside Messages.
  • Spotlight Search
    Find what you’re looking for across your iPhone, all from one place. Spotlight searches all of your contacts, email, calendars and notes, as well as everything in your iPod.
  • Voice Memos
    Capture a memo, a meeting or any audio recording on the go. Voice Memos works with the built-in iPhone microphone or with the mic on your headset.
  • Improved Calendar
    Create meetings via Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync and subscribe to calendars with new CalDAV support.
  • Buy Films, TV Programmes and Audiobooks
    Download films, TV programmes, music videos and audiobooks from the iTunes Store on your iPhone.
  • Enhanced Stocks App
    Get more at-a-glance information and view charts in landscape.
  • Safari Improvements
    Faster performance, autofill user names and passwords, and more.
  • Internet Tethering
    Share your Internet connection with your laptop with Internet tethering via Bluetooth or USB.
  • Stereo Bluetooth
    Connect compatible Bluetooth stereo headphones, car kits or other accessories.
  • Automatic Wi-Fi Login
    Log in to a Wi-Fi hotspot and iPhone automatically logs you in when you connect again.
  • Sync Notes
    Never leave a note behind. Now you can sync all the notes you write on your iPhone back to your Mac or PC.
  • Parental Controls
    Decide what music, videos and apps kids can access.
  • iTunes Store Account
    Create and log in to one or more iTunes Store accounts directly from your iPhone.
  • YouTube Login
    Log in to your YouTube account to save and sync bookmarks and rate favourites.
  • Shake to Shuffle
    Give iPhone a shake and it shuffles to a different song in your music library.
  • New Languages
    iPhone supports 30 languages and more than 40 keyboard layouts.
  • MobileMe Find My iPhone and Remote Wipe
    Find your iPhone if you lose it and protect your privacy with Remote Wipe.
  • Run the Latest Apps
    Run the next generation of iPhone apps, like peer-to-peer games and more.
I'm most excited about cut, copy and paste, along with MMS and Safari improvements.

I currently use the MMS app in the store but I'm not a huge fan of paying for the extra credits.

What are you guys looking forward to?

Thank god for that! I can now finally (hopefully) get rid of this unbelievably pants RebelSim and start using 3G without the entire phone not working!!

OS3.0 looks like it's going to be a good one.

It has been possible to send MMS with a jailbroken iPhone or by using a free app from the App Store but this either meant jailbreaking the phone or paying for 'credits' to use the 'free-app'.

Now it's all legit and it's going to come straight from your allotted monthly texts/PAYG monies.

Say you had a jailbroken 3G and various appstore apps. Would you need to do anything before upgrading and what happens to your paid apps?
 
Had it a while being a dev, and obviously got the GM last week, must say, it is good, although it kills the battery, I've gone from charging every 1-2 days, to having to charge when I get home from work

Apart from that, love it

  • Backup phone in iTunes (e.g. perform a sync)
  • Keep iPhone connected to PC/Mac
  • Hold down Power+Home on the phone until you see a message about the phone being in recovery mode
  • Let go of the buttons now
  • Click "Restore"
  • Done

This will ruin your jailbreak, but I cannot talk of this here.

That's weird, mine was just big brother-ish. ''As you don't currently have an iPhone tariff...'' :eek: How did they know! The jig is up :p
 
No, tomorrow evening according to o2

Apple is an American company, they'll be releasing it morning/lunch time in America which means it will be evening time here
