Took delivery of this AMD Bundle Pack today...

I'm just installing the Titan Fenrir CPU Cooler, but the thing is so big it overlaps the first DDR memory slot (and I think some of the second slot), so you can't actually install it without moving the memory to the other two slots...

Questions...

1) Is it a mistake to combine that mobo with that cooler in a bundle pack, given that it wipes out two memory slots?

2) The only way to fit the cooler is to move the memory from slots 1 & 2 to slots 3 & 4 - is that going to make a difference, performance wise?

1) it's only a problem if you intend to add 2 more sticks of ram in the future, but really 4gb is enough for pretty much everything imo.

2) it's fine, you're just moving them from one channel to the other, performance wise it'll be exactly the same.

Is the cooler facing the right way? Can you turn it around and then fit it?

Yeah it's the right way.

When you first look at it you think it must go the other way, but this is the only way it'll fit.

You can see it better here... http://www.guru3d.com/article/titan-ttcnk85tz-fenrir-cpu-cooler-review/5

Just found an old thread on this forum from someone with the exact same mobo/cooler combo, and he's had to move his memory up a couple of slots.

Strange choice of cooler really - I dont think OcUK have ever actually put this cooler onto this mobo, because they ship the mobo with the ram already in slots 1 and 2.

Wonder what they use when they test the overclock before it ships?

Hiya, I've got the same cpu/mobo/cooler/ram combo - purchased separately and not had any issues with the ram in the furthest slots. Actually got the ram running at 1600 1T with reasonable timings and stable. But I've not overclocked the CPU.
Cheers,
Gunnar.

Ok no worries, was just a bit of a head-scratching moment when i realised it wouldn't fit.

All installed now anyway.

Yes, had the same when building my new rig. Although I had read somewhere (can't remember where) that the furthest slots were more stable. Not sure if that's true or not - as I can't test it ! heh

Havent checked if same rules apply to the UD4P as my UD5P but should be able to use the other slots with no problem as the manual stated a choice.

I would have the same problem using the Thermalright Ultra 120 Xtreme if I used memory with heatsinks like Skyscrapers, it's just marketing crap selling fancy heatsink ram.

Surprised OcUK sell this bundle like this as it restricts future upgrade options, would have expected them to sell it with normal ram heatsink types, a guy at OCZ said 4GB sticks will be be coming out within the next year.

Doesnt effect me anyway as I use normal sized ram heatsinks.
