Anything better than a Henry vacuum for ~£100?

We're in need of a new vacuum cleaner on a cheap as chips budget. I've used a Henry 1200w before and it was fine for our needs, the only annoyance was the bag. Just wondering if anyone has any other ideas for a vacuum around £100?

Cheers

You can pick up dysons for next to nothing second hand, in fact people give them away on freecycle, working.

Henrys are massively overated. Only reason cleaning ladies use them is that they don't tend to break down and have long hoses / leads etc. It's just a bog standard vacuum cleaner otherwise with a bog standard bag.

Loads of v.good vacuum cleaners out there nowadays. We've got the Morphy Richard Performair Allergy Cyclonic which does an excellent job.

I have a Vax one - it's so loud that I can barely hear anything else - you could probably drop a grenade in the next room and I'd never notice. It's also powerful - it lifted the carpet in my old place and popped a couple of nails out :)

You don't actually want a VERY powerful vacuum cleaner - just enough to suck the dust out of the carpet but not enough to move the carpet or suck dust through it from below.

Don't know why people are so against Henry - best cleaner I have used - guess everyone is stuck on upright jobbies suitable for vast expanses of clear carpet rather than Henry who is versatile and works around all the little and crannies of my little home.

PS for earlier poster - the instructions for my Henry make it clear you don't need a bag so long as the filter which covers the bag space is in position.

The Panasonic MC-E3002 is good, sold shed loads and not had any problems. Good cleaner and parts and bags are easy to come by. Can be had for 70 quid.

A bit above your budget is the the Miele S4211, again bagged but a great machine and Miele quality.

Nothing, I just like bagless vacuum cleaners as you never need to buy bags.

You have fuss with filters instead. I bought 20 HEPA bags with my Henry - that'll last a while. They're very large, cheap and easy to fit.

I've been through several bagless upright vacuums - the Henry I have now is more effective, easier to use and far, far quieter. The last one I had worked well enough, but I was seriously considering getting ear protection.

Henrys are not bog standard vacuum cleaners. They're much more effective and much quieter than bog standard vacuum cleaners. That's probably due to having a much larger fan.

In my circumstances it was pretty handy - apart from that one carpet incident - it remains the only vacuum cleaner I've owned which was effective with pet hair and cost less than the OP's price requirements - in fact, considering I paid about £80 for it, the number of attachments and the ease of use are amazing.

yes anything. henrys are reliable but ****. they do not pick up dust or anything else. No idea why people rate them so much. Do they compare them against a yard broom.

Panasonic with a hepa filter.

Couldn't agree more.

Reconditioned Dyson, we got a DC10 Animal for £70 with all parts and works brilliant, it put our James (Henrys older brother) to shame on the dog hair.
