I have a lot of 1080p content on my computer but want to play it back via a tv.

So I'm looking for a tv - I suppose that supports maximum res via computer link.

or do any tvs have hard drives that support these files?

Thanks I will have a look. I'm concerned using a standard pc link on most tvs the picture can't be that good so hopefully this will be what I need.

What are the prices though?

Am I right to say linking through ethernet will mean the computer is processing the video file and the tv is just the display/monitor whereas usb means the tv is doing all the work.

will a USB memory stick with a load of 1080p mkv videos work if I stick it in one of these tvs?

Do you have a XBox 360 or a PS3? If so then they can be used to stream video from your PC to your TV, I use my 360 and it works brilliantly.

If not then the WDTV device looks very god. I would have bought one if I hadn't had the 360.

Hi Williamd, I'm studying a new product that does exactly what you need (and more).
There are a few infos, on the net, it looks like they are starting selling it, is it possible to post a few links, here? (If any moderator could help...).

Thanks! Here's some links about the BLOBbox. I'm sorry that the best articles are in italian, so I linked the google translated version!

This box does a plethora of things, from DVB-T to bittorrent, HD PVR and media player, podcast, online services...DLNA... I think it's pretty unique, am I wrong? Is out there something similar?

As I said this box is popping out through resellers in these days, in Italy, I will maybe wait for the first switch off of the analog transmissions to decide...

What you are describing sounds exactly the same as the popcorn hour which has been around for about 18 months.

No the tv (assuming you are referring to the Samsung LED sets) does all the decoding.

One thing i would say to you - make sure you check out the motion blur on any LCD you buy.

I got a 40" 60Hz samsung 1080p, and while its great most of the time, the motion blur can be quite annoying at times. Its most noticeable watching sport and fast paced action stuff - noticed it a lot watching band of brothers.

I don't know what the new wave of 100/120Hz are like, if there's any improvement but definately check it out first. Also, I gather plasmas are much better at handling motion in general.

As for playing hi-def content i strongly recommend you get yourself hooked up with an HTPC running media centre (with media browser), you'll never look back.
