Oh, and the headlight units are sealed. If the main bulb thinger blows, you have to replace the entire unit at a cost of ~£800, which is somewhat insane.

In all seriousness Fox, would one of these (perhaps not the AMG model) be a candidate for your next car? I know you lament the fact that as time passes an E39 M5 will just become a tatty old car and so not be a suitable replacement for your 530. I seem to remember you thinking an E60 of some sort would probably be the next step, but the prices of these might drop sufficiently to make it a realistic alternative if you didn't want another saloon. Just that it'd be a lot older than going for an E60 by the time you get around to changing.

do you mean the sl65 bi-turbo, mercs are like porsches to me, far too many models I'm never 100% what options each model has, but i thought the 55 was just supercharged and the 65 got the blowers

My Uncle's bro has one of these (uncle-in-law...whatever) - he treated himself after winning $900,000 in a Poker tournament...he's a nobber though and therefore SL65's are forever for nobbers in my eyes.

mate drives his into the ground, services the bits that are essential to keep it moving, if silly gas suspension and electric seats don't work he doesnt care, 600 odd hp and the TC fuse removed, its a posh hooligans car!!
