Just thought I'd seek your views / comparisons on the economy my Focus is returning. Its an 06 Focus TDCi Sport and after 2 tankfulls I'm getting about 500 miles (+/- 1 or 2) from £43 worth of diesel. At £1.03/liter thats (roughly 41.7 liters or 9.15 gallons) an average of 54.6mpg. I'm not heavy footed and do about 40% of the driving in town and the rest is A road or Motorway cruising between 70 and 80Mph. Decent or could be better?

My previous 1.6L Fiat Brava just about did 42mpg.

Sounds about right TBH.

Would be interesting what it would get to on a long cruise.

My Mondeo 2.0 TDCi does 38mpg at about the same proportions as you and 50mpg on a long run - I'm not heavy footed either

Sounds good, my 2.0 52 plate TDCi Mondeo is currently doing around 47mpg, easy on the foot, and sticking around 65mph on my 25 mile trip to work. Before that i was getting around 39mpg, having a heavier foot, and staying around 80mph.

They're scarily sensitive to driving style arent they? :)

I notice with VAG diesels you can drive them like your pubic hair's on fire and only get about 2mpg less than driving like an angel

I've got the same car, i got 53.59mpg out of my last tank and drove 536miles. I tend to get somewhere between 500 and 570miles out of a tank depending what kind of driving ive been doing.

My daily commute is an 80mile round trip which is about 60% dual carriageway and the rest twisty A roads with lots of 30mph limits.

I can get about 70-75mpg on a long run taking it nice and easy though!

Far to sensitive IMO, and i think the new ones are just the same, i too have seen that with the VAG, it doesnt matter how you drive them, you still get good mpg.

There was a thread over on MEG about mpg, most people were mid\high 30s to mid 40mpg, then one guy claiming to get 650 - 700 miles out of 55L, I didnt believe him at first, as all he said was he chnges gear around 2k - 2.5k rpm, and drives at 55mph, no hard acceleration etc, well after driving similar style I now believe that you could get that, but its a boring way of driving. Im only doing it so i have more money for me, rather then more money going on diesel.
