Hmm not sure if yo go for it, cant be arsed ringing up to cancel 30 days from now. But great deal for anyone on Silver wanting Gold for a month

You can just cancel the direct debit if you don't mind your account name being barred from XBL (i.e. if you use a temporary new name for the free month). Remember you get 4 months free with each new XBox too, so that's 5 months for £1 if you don't mind regularly changing nick names.

I still don't understand why you have to go through all this when there's a simple block of text with a little tick box (that you click) which doesn't automatically remove money from your credit card.

It's really really not that hard to understand!

How long has that option been available for? I'm pretty sure it wasn't there last year.

And no need to get sarcy just because you're old :p

Well it wasn't there when the Xbox360 first came out (or not that I remember).

But it's certainly been there about a year because I cancelled my Live subscription last June as I knew I just wouldn't be able to play for a while.

Simply clicked the box, got a lovely email (automated I admit) about all the fun I'd miss and in February when work calmed down just re-instated it.

Zero problems.

I know, but please stop doing it as it helps no one and with the regularity of your comments someone is bound to take the bait occasionally.

I must be blind because I recently cancelled and this wasn't an option online :(

If you have a card registered against an auto renewal gold account, you have to ring up to cancel it.

Only way I could cancel my Gold subscription was to phone them up. It was a hassle and there should be an option on the console to just cancel it. You have to state why you want to cancel then they ask if anyone else in your family wants the account.

Is there really a way to cancel it online? Obviously I can't look for that option myself. Did they just add this recently?
