Got some tailgate corrosion on my 2003 vRS estate.

I took some photos of this and spoke to my local dealer (White Dove) whom sent them off to Skoda. However i've now heard back and they (Skoda) are claiming that the corrosion:

'has been visible for some time and should have been reported prior to this'.

As such, they've refused to do anything under the corrosion warranty.

Do you guys here think i've got much of a chance of getting them to change their mind? If so, how do you think I ought to go about it? The corrosion seems to have been present for a while but I have only had the car myself for 9 weeks or so....

Cheers,

Mike

When was it last MOT'ed or serviced and was it a main Skoda dealer... if so did they not spot this obvious corrosion and take course to rectify ;)

Last MOT'd/serviced back in March, before I collected the car. Wasn't a Skoda/VAG dealer though.

Think i'll try a nice email to them, see what they can do (if anything). Excrement hits the fan and i'll either live with it (it's not structural and not really noticeable) or get a body shop i've used before to do it.

Tailgate corrosion is a known problem on the estates unfortunately. I'd push it a bit harder and see if they fold.

Any chance we could see the pics?

Sure- http://digitalbinary.co.uk/corrosion_big are the high res ones.

I knew it was a known problem before, hence I really thought Skoda would allow the claim (as did the dealership). Pretty bad customer service really.

That looks like its very early stages to my eyes. I'd go to Skoda UK direct and say that you aren't happy with their response and suggest that they re-look at the photo's that you have presented.

The car hadn't been washed for a few weeks before I took the photos so it's covered in crap from the M4 at the back, usually it's a lot shinier (usually done with a combo of megs #7 show car glaze, poorboys ssp and poorboys natty's blue - good combination on dark coloured cars although i'd like to try some of the dodo wax range) :)
