Tax on electricity to fund carbon capture plan enjoy

Election, please!

It's just whatever excuse for tax they can think up. It's not as though these taxes will go into special funds for the stated purpose - it's just extra taxation being done dishonestly. Dishonesty is this government's speciality.

Unfortunately, I doubt if the Queen will exercise her paper power to dissolve Parliament even if I send a request:

Dear Liz,
Please dissolve Parliament to get rid of this bunch of unelected incompetents, then call for a general election. You have the power (of Grayskull).

Ta muchly, a loyal subject.

P.S. Please video Gordon when you tell him and put it up on YouTube. It'll get more hits than naked exercising. Or something.

Do you think that'll work?

Oh excellent. I wa enjoying my cup of tea until reading this. I feel like bringin the tea back up and offering it to Gordon Brown along with a couple of rich tea I have wiped my arse with.

Moving to France is just getting that little bit nearer. Go on Brown, keep pushing it!!

They wouldn't dare increase the rate of VAT on electricity but they hope we'll be soft enough to swallow this because it's 'green' - they must think we're the green ones.

Just to suspend the gov't bashing for a moment - If carbon capture works effectively and we can build more coal power stations surely it will cause a medium term drop in energy price?
I still can't quite work out why the government are standing around scratching their collective balls and not building a 8-12 new nuclear power stations already though.
Or if they care about this just passing legislation that all power produced from fossil/carbon from 2016 must have carbon scrubbing... then it would be up to us and the electric companies to sort it out.

This will be like any other government project these days, it will run over budget and produce more expensive electricity which will feed through into higher bills for customers. As you say we should be building nuclear power stations, in fact we should have started doing it ten years ago. This government was warned back then that we would be facing energy shortages but they ignored the advice, and we will all suffer for it.

I don't see what you mean - the country already is a joke and it's not just the people on top that are to blame. Half the people alive today are contributing to the bloody mess rather than trying to help it.

It's all money, money, money. People need to stop thinking with their ****ing wallet for a change and start trying to remember what it means to be a person. It's not hard to not **** on other people, but people still manage to make it their daily ****ing agenda. That is what's wrong with this country: the people.

Whether we pay more tax here, or elsewhere, the price for the last year's rescue packages (and those still ahead) is yet to be paid. Whichever government we have, there is going to be much more taxation. All that will change is the excuse they use for gathering it.

When it comes to energy, we're paying less tax on it than was originally planned when the Conservatives introduced it. So just be grateful, ok? ;-)

Gratitude for being forced to pay more towards MPs' moats and servants quarters isn't the word I'd choose to use.
