UK 'must plan' for warmer future

Woohoo better weather!

This is the UK - we will have 3 days of rain causing flooding followed by 1 day of sun which will cause a drought.

EDIT:

Key findings for South East England, 2080s
Medium emissions scenario

Under medium emissions, the central estimate of increase in winter mean temperature is 3ºC; it is very unlikely to be less than 1.6ºC and is very unlikely to be more than 4.7ºC.

Under medium emissions, the central estimate of increase in summer mean temperature is 3.9ºC; it is very unlikely to be less than 2ºC and is very unlikely to be more than 6.4ºC.

Under medium emissions, the central estimate of change in winter mean precipitation is 22%; it is very unlikely to be less than 4% and is very unlikely to be more than 50%.

Under medium emissions, the central estimate of change in summer mean precipitation is –22%; it is very unlikely to be less than –47% and is very unlikely to be more than 7%.

Its a vicious loop : Hotter summers = more AC  / more AC = hotter summers

lol. Despite doing a biology degree (hence ecology/enviro) I dont give two hoots about it because nobody else does

Bring on the extreme weather, makes everything a little more interesting, plus it might kill of the chavs.

We're screwed then - it rains for an hour and we have flooding as it is
MASSIVE EXAGERATION ALERT!!!!!!

Generally speaking if it rains for an hour nothing bad happens, hell it can rain for days and nothing happens. In extreme circumstances like last week in Sheffield when one months rain fell in one hour some flooding occured what a massive shock.

isn't hotter summers and colder winters what we've all be asking for for years :D##

hot summer days and white Christmases !

wow shock weather changes...
Lets get back to festivals taking place every year on a frozen Thames river.

bring it on.
The massive majority of flooding is caused by us, not change in weather.
1) building on flood planes
2) rather than storing the water we direct it to the nearest river, which means it floods further down.

You can't take the rain water from 10's of towns and put it in the same river, build on teh flood planes and expect everything to be ok.

Same with drought as we don't collect the water it is wasted. the reason we don't collect it, is it being classed as run of and being to contaminated. I'm sure we can filter it.

You could have the hottest council estate in the country and call it "I'm a chav, get me out of here" - the winner could stay in Iceland Supermarket's freezers for a week.

I was in town when that happened, thought it was going to be a repeat of 2 years ago, their was a torrent of water coming out of the sainsbury's on the moor.

Their was a massive thunderstorm in leeds a couple of days after that, a bolt hit a tree outside my house, sounded like a bomb had gone off.
