Afternoon all,

In a caffeine induced fit of pre-planning, I was working out how high petrol prices could go before I'd have to get something remotely planet-friendly (:p).

I was looking around £1.50 a litre, by which point fuel will be costing about £450 a month. If anyone here has a clue about fuel prices, is this a near event or are we talking years away?

I hate Gordon Brown. :(

Nothing to do with Gordon Brown, more to do with the oil producing countries not wanting the price to ever go below 100$ a barrel again. As Yaz says in the song ''The only way is up''

The problem is that there are hardly and good alternatives to a petrol or diesel car, you could also move to Egypt, a litre of petrol costs ~£0.11 ;)

Damn, not looking fun!

In the end it can only go up so much before everyone kicks off, people won't be able to keep stomaching the increases.

I'm campaigning for split level pricing - £1 a litre rising to £5 a litre if your car was made by fat brummies.

well, atmoment the only replacement for petrol ideas are coming from companies sponsered or owned by petrochemical companies, so expect to have to bend over for the near future.
The only thing that looks promising is the isreal/ renault electric car project.
If we spent 1/3 of the amout invested in petrol engine innovation, we would have a viable option.

There's a number of viable alternatives, some are rolling on the tarmac presently.

£1.50 probably by this time next year - unless Brown lowers the duty and gets rid of the VAT on fuel that is

really name a few, Last time i saw the only viable alternatives were the honda based hydrogen cell powered vechile.
The hydrogen supplied by shell etc, which still means we get raped at the pump's due to them regualting the prices.
And a few small companies making small evs for inner city work.
The days of the big batch ev's are long gone., Mainly due to the small amount of revenue produced by servicing and spares.

If that's really the case; we can only hope it happens soon.

Abraxaz1, small companies making small EVs?

Subaru have an EV in Japan, as do Mitsubishi.
Nissan and Toyota both have EVs coming out over the next year or 2 as well

G-Wiz, Prius or Civic Hybrid :D

G-wiz, will not be challenging any big company's due to the small profits margin to invest in newer tech. They still ship with lead acid / agm batteries for the love of god.
if they had the capital to invest in better design's and to use a lithium polymer battery or the latest supper quick charge
(http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/7938001.stm) then yes they would be a threat to the car sales of bigger comapnies.

Both the pirus and civic have been out mpg by standered car's, the only time they are truley decent is when people uppgrade the batteries to lithium polymer and run "silent".

Which we will never see realesed in any big amount's to have a impact on fuel prices of the europe.
Toyota had ev's in the 1990's but withdrawn them due to the fact they didn't produce enough revenue, this will most likely happen with these or they will be sold in such small numbers.
The rav4 had a range in 1997 on sealed lead acid batteries (nimh) of 100 miles, their was a 6 month waiting list to get one. The people wanted to buy it, toyota didn't want to sell it due to the low profits.
The ev1 had a highway range of 300 miles on lead acid batteries (nimh), demand once again was high, but they were recalled and crushed due to low profits from servicing and parts. Gm went on to build suv's as their next amin product....

Oil prices will probably slowly increase in the next couple of years. Large changes will more than likely not happen (barring external events spiking or depressing prices) in the near future, due to the risks to the stuttering global economy.

OPEC thinks that oil prices will approach $300 a barrel in the future!! That will probably make me slow down a bit.

I'm going to get a bike, unfortunately petrol would have to be approaching £5 a litre to be cost effective.

Work is a 12 mile round trip.

Petrol has gone up and up and up in the past month, while diesel has stayed exactly the same round here. It's quite good for us diesel owners, but probably bit of a p1sser for the petrol owners.

In the old days diesel was cheaper than petrol, but it seems unlikely we would return to that.

Stop moaning about and do something about it.

It is the Govornments fault they take samething like 65p per liter wtf and there keep increaseing it roughly every 6 months.

we have rached oil peek and with deemand from places like China we will have to fork the bill unless we do something about it

But like a true British nation we are, we will just make a joke about it laugh it off text it to a few friends maon about it on internet and never actually do anything about it.
