Re-playing FF VII **Warning - Spoilers**

I would say 64 hours is a remarkable achievement to get all that in. 60 hours is about my standard play time for FF7. Thats with nowhere near the mastering of that!

I'd agree, I'm also quite impressed by that.

I think I'm on 48 hours having done most stuff barring the last two weapons and Sephiroth, but I'm nowhere near those stats!

I found it much easier the second time around.

Using Cloud and Cid's Triple AP weapons, combined with Barret's double weapon and double AP bracelets the materia levels pretty quickly!

Many Magic Pots and Movers (The group of 3 bouncing red balls) were killed in the levelling of the materia :p

/edit
Found the pics just incase anyone else is interested in a grind fest :p

I started playing FFVII Crisis Core yesterday, it's really good. Has anyone else got a PSP and not played it before? If so I reccommend you get hold of it.

I've had it for ages but never got round to playing it

I've not played it - I might have to try and find a copy.

I'll also have to raise my hand and admit that I've never played FFIX :o (I'm very much ashamed)

Double AP bracelets... which ones are they again?

Never bothered with the pots and balls. I tend to save the North Crater as a 'treat' for my characters to romp through once fully powered up.

They're called 'Rune Armlet' a bit of googling reveals 4 non-linked slots at double growth, from the Bone Village item shop.

It's swings and roundabouts really. You either get a Wizards bracelet with 8 slots and single growth, or Rune armlet with 4 slots and double growth.

I prefer the Rune's as it feels a lot quicker :p

There are also two triple growth weapons, one for Cid and the other for Cloud, I think one is two slot and the other is three slot, both are great for mastering materia like KOTR and All (for Gil)

Slightly off-topic: I started Final Fantasy VIII yesterday having played VII and IX but it is very awkward and confusing, is the whole game confusing and strange or should I persevere?

Stick with it Dutch, it gets much better. Just remember to 'Draw' 100 of every spell you can, as soon as you spot it on an enemy. It's painstaking but pretty much essential. Only at the start of the game does it take a long time as you lack all magic, as the game progresses new spells only appear every few hours so it isn't as much as a chore.

That's the irritating bit, it's about drawing, GF's, junction abilities, triple triad cards.

I was watching the tutorials and my face looked like

I think I will look for a FAQ first instead of finishing the game once without a guide or continue Crisis Core first.

.

Ok, i'll try and layman it, it indeed is rather complex (but rewarding to learn):

Drawing: Drawing literally draws magic out of your opponent, if you use one of these spells you lose one of the ones you've drawn out. Typically you will draw 5-10 per turn so you will rarely run out of magic. You can carry 100 of each spell, i urge you to draw 100 for at least your three main characters, ideally you want 100 for everyone. Some spells later in the game are very rare however so you will have to make do what you have

GF: These are your summons. Equip as many as you can on each character, they provide benefits to your character (which i will outline soon) but also level up according to how much experience is gained when you win a fight with them equipped. They will learn skills as they grow, these can be anything from increasing HP by 30% to stat and resistance junctioning.

Junctioning: This is the key to the FFVIII combat system. For this example i shall use HP. If you 'equip' a GF that has the Junction HP ability, you will be able to choose a spell to junction to the characters HP stat. When you attach a spell to their HP, it will boost their HP depending on the nature of the spell, how many of that spell you have 'Drawn' and its strength. So for example, with HP, if you equipped 100 Fire it would increase your HP a bit, however if you equipped 100 Fira it would increase your HP significantly more due to its greater strength. To add even more confusion to the mix, if you Junctioned Cura it would add even more health as it is a healing spell and therefore better suited to increasing you HP. This can also be applied for status protection (Bio will protect against poisoned status) and element resistance (Fire junctioned will reduce fire damage), these more complex forms of junctioning have to be learned as they level up however, only stat junctioning is available from the start. It's in depth but once you get the basic mechanic you will learn with time.

I'd like to know the numbers behind drawing, and why one character can ravage draws from an enemy and in the same fight another constantly fails or gets 1/2 magic.

FF8 was simple to get to grips with imo!

It was all down to your characters magic ability and the enemies. The key was to find an enemy that had really powerful magic but also really low intelligence, there were some good ones scattered about the map.

So low magic = poor draw

At least I know now not to put myself through repeated "Can't Draw" misery. I'll just have one person suck it all in and dish it out post fight.
