It's a samsung LCD 32" tv, decent picutre, not head above the rest, but not poor by any standards. I've already got a dvd upscaler for it which works nice, but i'm wondering whether i should get a bluray drive to whack in the pc, and take the pc downstairs when i want to watch a movie. On the other hand i could replace my 1280x1024 19" monitor upstairs with a nice one, and possibly even get a bluray player , and shift my movie watchign experience upstairs....

How far away from the TV do you sit?

Anything much more than 6-8ft and you won't notice the difference between a good DVD and 720p at 32"

For comparison I have a 46" and sit 10ft away - difference between 720p and 1080p is minimal!

I have a 32" in my room and i'm 10ft aaway from it (I know its far too small really ;)) But I can definately notice the difference between a decent DVD and Blurays at 720p, both through a PS3.

yes but the difference between 720p and 1080i... and 420p and 720p is very different...

It's 480p, and it's not. The difference between a *good* quality DVD (running through a decent player) and 720p is extremely minimal when you're a long way from a small screen. We've a 32" downstairs and you can just about see a tiny difference between BBC1 and BBC HD from 10ft

Broadcasts are still 576i, even from 10ft away you WILL notice a difference compared to 720p.

Certainly the differences between 1080i and 720p are pretty negligible in comparison, 1080i containing that bit more sharpness for slow moving images, and 720p having the edge in fast action.
