***The Official iPhone 3.0 Thread***

Had the phone for a good 6 months now and im out and about all the time infactwas sitting in a pub last night and my mates displayed the 3G icon but mine did not hence the reason for this question ....

Are you sure your SIM is 3G enabled? I ask because I previously owned a Nokia N95 and was supposed to have a 3G SIM but when I called O2 customer services complaining that I couldn't get 3G the assistant was fit to tell me my SIM was not a 3G enabled one.

Ive had the same sim card since i was 18 (22 on sunday) could that be an issue ? mmmmm will give 02 a call

That's very likely the problem. If you call O2 from your mobile they can tell straight away off their screen if it is a 3G SIM or not.

Very good. Think I'll wait to see if o2 (can) start wielding the banhammer. But the file's downloaded and ready to go :)

A quick question, I presume this update is also available for my iPod Touch (on holiday right now though). I see quite a few of my apps require updating for the new 3.0 software and I think if I go ahead and download these updates the apps won't work anymore.

Would you say its worth paying £5 (?) for this update?

Cheers. ;)

Well it is more of a phone update than an touch update as most of the pleasing updates are cellular based.

Just updated my iPhone last night, seems to be ok so far.

Only problem i have, everytime i turn on my phone it automatically goes into screen lock instead of going straight to the home screen, so everytime i turn on my phone i need to unlock it.

Does that happen to anyone else?

My iPod Touch does this since the update too so maybe its intended.

Strange that, as when I phoned them the girl was fit to tell me that I didn't have a 3G sim, just from the info on screen (or at least that's what she told me).

Ah well, hopefully you'll be sorted now anyway. :)

I have noticed that the iPhone 3G and the iPhone 3G S firmware is slightly different.

The 3G S has an option to display a battery percentage, whereas the 3G does not.

FYI: It's under settings > usage..

My battery life has severly decreased since this update.

I could easily last 1 day without charging it, but now, after an hours use, it's dropped down to 1/2!

I'd best keep a charger on me from now on!

Grrr, updated itunes, restarted PC, downloaded 3.0 and I get "There was a problem downloading... etcetc error -3259"

Downloaded it three times now, gets right to the end then deletes the file! Nothing helpful on google nor apple forums :(
