Breaking news: FOTA to form breakaway F1 Championship!

I would love that, it would need resurfacing though. So it'll never happen.

Ummm... not the Nordschiefe...

Wont happen unless Bernie leaves F1 and Goes with the FOTA teams to the new series.

Who says he hasn't hedged his bets?
If Bernie goes with them, they get the Formula 1 name, and they may well take over the FIA F1 contracts with the broadcasters.

Can the FIA actually sue Ferrari over failure to race? Surely it would not be proper for them to sue a car maker over this

Bernie has threatened - Max afaik hasn't.

They could try though. The french courts have already deemed the contract they signed both legally binding and null and void in the same case, so it could be interesting.

It all depends on the contracts and if it does happen they will try. Ferrari is confident that they are not contracted in. But it's a LONG LONG LONG way of from them breaking away though.

In all honesty I hope FOTA really do break away from F1, Bernie and co are just in it for the money and power, not for love of the sport. Just look at the races they've lined up in recent years, Bahrain? Abu Dhabi? And at the same time they ballsed up the US GP and finally got it cut off, and then got rid of the Canadian GP, and I really liked that track. Not to mention Bernie trying to rid us of a British GP, even though most drivers love Silverstone.

So yeah, it could be run much, much better.

My guess is that Bernie will step in a do a deal with the teams though. Maybe resulting in the sacking of Max.

Well yes Bernie could try to sue; however Ferrari can refuse to manufacture a car to next year's regulations and since the current car is not legal they would not have a car they can enter - thus they would not race in F1.

It is unlikely that a contract that forces a team to change their car constantly to keep up with regulations would stand as valid in court; so the FIA would probably either have to let them race with current car or not race at all.

Bernie is part of the problem as well though, look at what Ghosn said ... teams are fed up of him taking 50% of the money.

The fact that each manufacturer has to apply for entry each year suggests, contracts are on a yearly basis.

Also some of the new grand prix tracks must be annoyed.

Agree, he's a greedy man. If he wanted to do something positive for the sport he would reinvest that into the tracks that need modernising, he could have sorted Silverstone out with his pocket change no doubt. But he's like a little kid that needs to get his own way, and I don't see him changing any time soon.

If FOTA do start their own series - what engines are Williams and Force India going to run?
Current Toyota/McLaren engines (as used by FOTA GP next year) or everyone in F1 running Cosworth and having a one-engine series :/
