Breaking news: FOTA to form breakaway F1 Championship!

i suspect this is just adding some meat to their threat to see who bends over first, fota, or max. max has been pretty much unmovable on his stance so fota are having to go very far to try and get him to compromise.

isnt max due for re-election within the fia soon, surely this chaos wont be doing him any favours?

Are you serious? What motorsport have you been watching for the last few years?
If you've found it so bad, why are you still watching it? I wasn't talking so much about the teams side rather than the spectacle itself.

I don't really see how they could set a whole championship with TV deals and sponsorship up a la F1 by March 2010 (or whenever), Bernie will have contracts with all the tracks, sponsors, TV around the world... It just seems like a logistical nightmare to set up from nothing.

I enjoy the build up and the racing. I don't enjoy the ridiculous rules and decisions that have come out of FIA over the last few years however.

They managed to ruin F1 this year, with rule changes that make it more complicated for the spectators, harder to overtake and with a huge cost in KERS that is now going to get ditched next year.

Hell mosleys cap for next year wouldn't even cover the development cost for KERS this year.

What about the GP section? Surely they could use that and not the full one...which would be a bit excessive.

I think Acid was talking about the short circuit. Someone posted some pictures a few months ago of the state of it, and one straight had a big hole where they had removed a bridge or something.

You do know the next GP is at the Nurburgring right? They just spent loads of money updating the business centre facilities and parts of the track.

FIA says FOTA acted in bad faith
The FIA says it is “disappointed but not surprised” by FOTA’s decision to launch a breakaway championship, restating its belief that elements within the teams’ organisation were always intent on scuppering any negotiated solution.

F1 could lose $2.2bn through split
The eight teams that have announced their plan to set up an F1 breakaway series will take with them more than US$2.2 billion of annual investment into the sport, according to research from a leading industry monitor.

Will it be in HD?! :D

that would be a possibility, since F1 uses its own cameras and is the main reason for no upgrades in recent years to get with the times.

If each FOTA GP track has to organise its own cameras they could well be HD. Onboard will stay SD though as the bandwidth needed for HD is too great.

I'm hoping that if FOTA GP goes ahead that its more euro based races with some north America races like east coast side at Montreal and west coast side at laguna seca? F1 has been moving far too much to Asia and tracks that lack atmosphere, are never full and are generally dull races. Only good new races are Turkey and Bahrain. But even Bahrain only has a few stadiums on the start finish straight, rest of the circuit has nothing!

I cant wait for 2010 really... Either F1 carries on without mosley or F1 and FOTA split, and in the long run its bad news just like IRL and Cart. It dilutes the fanbase/money, and in the end one will die, and one will win. Shame BBC just got F1 back and now F1 is "dead". Does this mean ITV will get FOTA? ahhhh that sucks. If FOTA is on sky, ill never be able to see it just like A1GP. :(

Max said on BBC just now that a statement is due shortly.

The crowd around him as he tried to move down the paddock was shocking.
