Breaking news: FOTA to form breakaway F1 Championship!

Can't believe they let him hoover up 50% of all the team fees though?! Seems pretty ludicrous that the "poison dwarf" can get away with that!

Yeh it is ridiculus. I like the guy as a person, he's a great character and always makes for interesting watching when Brundle finds him on the grid.
It's just unbelievable that he can get away with taking that amount of money.

Superb news, I really hope it happens. :)

They've said they want to get back to proper racing, and have mentioned bringing down ticket prices too, sounds promising.

I'll follow the breakaway series, with the 8 top teams and drivers going over, the old F1 will be just, meh. :D

Nurburgring =! Nordschleife ;)

Maybe the FOTA can go back to the A1 ring in Austria, I don't know why but I always liked that track (and Zandvoort off course as it is close to where I live :) )

Red Bull own the A1 ring, so they probably would race there

it wont happen
there problem will be finding track to race on or should i say good safe upto date tracks.
the tracks that hold F1 races now wont be able to run them as there contracted to the FIA and tracks that want to run a F1 races in the future wouldnt want to upset the FIA
so that just leaves substandard tracks that arent safe for F1 cars

there are loads of tracks safe for f1 cars that is why some teams used to test at tracks that werent on the calender the problem with the tracks is they arent up to bernies standards.

F1 isnt about racing its about entertaining billionaires and sponsors

with the amount of circuits that bernie has screwed over in the past decade or so i think there will be plenty of choice for the teams.

i also cant see any track in spain or italy not letting ferrari or alonso in the door.

not feeling that sorry for those new 'uber' tracks being made in some oil rich desert......hehehehe

It amuses me, to see the various interviews, and Bernie walking along, answering questions in a way that made it seem as though he doesn't actually have a clue as to what its all about.

Drop Max and Bernie like the idiots they are. They are trying to turn F1 into A1GP just about. It is the pinnacle of motorsport, not a Sunday afternoon drive around. Hope FOTA stick it to Max and Bernie.

FIA's response.

The FIA’s lawyers have now examined the FOTA threat to begin a breakaway series. The actions of FOTA as a whole, and Ferrari in particular, amount to serious violations of law including wilful interference with contractual relations, direct breaches of Ferrari's legal obligations and a grave violation of competition law. The FIA will be issuing legal proceedings without delay.

Preparations for the 2010 FIA Formula One World Championship continue but publication of the final 2010 entry list will be put on hold while the FIA asserts its legal rights.

Yay! It's all going legal. :D

Also - apparently Prodrive have removed their bid for a F1 seat. So even if those 8 teams do set up their own championship, there may not be enough teams to fill in in F1 with Lola and Prodrive withdrawing.

8 breakaway teams + Lola and Prodrive would be good. :)

I think Lola and Prodrive would only enter F1 if there WAS a cap
If there is a break away there wont be a cap so I think you can count them out.

Also who is going to supply the tires?

Mallya hints Force India could jump ship

http://www.planetf1.com/story/0,18954,3213_5389223,00.html

But that's most likely just another rumour, or reading into what he said wrongly.

To be honest if all the big teams jump ship they'd be mad not to follow, I can't see F1 being much of a product without the big manufacturers onboard - the FIA already do their best to spoil the attraction it's the teams that keep most fans interested.
