Unless I'm going mental I can't see your current card listed so would be pretty hard to compare size wise :p
 
Not sure if your motherboard can handle the 45nm chip? I have the same and I am sure last time I checked I could only go 65nm technology.

I am in the same boat as you, however motherboard is packing up. Just going to get a cheapo one, and save a bt more and go amd later in the year. Possibly worth just waiting a bit longer and save for a mobo/cpu upgrade.
 
From the dimensions I can find for 7900GS cards compared to the 4870/50's I think you are going to find it's a fair bit bigger. If you can measure the actual card you have it'll be easier to find out as it's nigh on impossible to find exact dimensions for the card you've got.
