Hi guys

I’m new here, and looking for advice please, I have a Vauxhall Vectra 5 door saloon 1.8 year 2000 W reg, however, it’s to big for her in doors to drive, she’s recently been offered a job but is going to need the car for work, therefore I’d like to downgrade if possible to a smaller car.

Here’s my problem, I can’t get main street credit, due my credit rating being 00000, were on a DMP (Debt management plan, plus a charging order on our home) please don’t judge, redundancy / mental health issues etc. etc., eventually take their toll.

Any suggestions what I can do, I was thinking of going to somewhere like Car craft etc., etc, due to them offering guaranteed credit, but I guess the prices are out of my league, I do have a Network Q close by but I’m to embarrassed to enquire due to my credit rating, although again, I think the prices are out of my league, as I’m looking for something under 4K.

My wife has suffered with post natal depression; the offer of employment is just what she needs, if I can get the car issue sorted.

Hoping someone can post some useful advice.

Do not go to Carcraft, ever.

What is your budget, and why do you need to change your car? The Vectra is a horrible car but if you're in such a financial mess it may be wise to just put up with it until your wife gets settled in her job and you can actually afford to change it.

i think the garenteed thing is subject to status, i seriously doubt you would get it.

seriously, keep her driving the vectra or find someone who will swap it for something like a mk3 astra.

the last thing you need is to be borrowing money. infact, once she is earning i think you need to tell the DMP people and they will ask for more money from you.

Yes, if you are genuine, you need to go to Money Saving Expert...

www.moneysavingexpert.com

You should be able to ask/find lots of very good advice to help you out about all things financial.

My honest advice would be to wait and see how the new job pans out, getting into any financial commitment at this stage would prove very difficult if your wife where to not get on with it.

sounds suspiciously like a windup given the massive attention the last carcraft thread got.

Assuming this is genuine.

Your answer is simple, trade in your vectra for something smaller .But trade it against something that costs no or very little more than the car your trading in. That way you dont get yourself into even more debt.

If your credit rating as as bad as you say it is, the last thing you need is more atrocious debt at sky high interest.

Thx for the replies, why you would not think I'm not genuine is beyond me.

You should read my whole post before jumpin, I stated above, my wife has suffered from PND for sometime, this affected her confidence both in the car and at home, I was thinking if I could get a smaller car it may well assist her confidence.

I mentioned Carcraft becuase they deal with people like me who are in a financial mess, had Yes car credit still been around I would have suggested them.

Yea, you really don't want to make a bad situation worse by going into more debt, that would be unwise at best, foolish really though. If you can put some cash in and get a Focus or an Astra MK4 or something that could work. I wouldn't get an Astra MK3, I'd rather drive a MK1 Vectra than one of those things, and that's saying something.

./puts on helmet and protective suite :D

The only reason people may have thought you were not being serious is we had a thread a few days ago about a lad who brought a £3.5k Clio for £10k because CarCraft shafted him with some stupid finance package. This thread has now spread all over the internet and has become quite 'e-famous'. It's to be assumed some idiots will come on here and create fake accounts to annoy members.

Keep the Vectra until you have sorted your other issues out.

If I was in your situation I wouldn't even consider trading the Vectra in or putting some extra money towards another car, you have far more important things to be putting your money towards (paying off existing debts).

PND, getting into more debt will be worse for her than the worry of the car.
take her out driving and increase her confidence. carcraft will not touch you imo

Your timing is impeccably bad, we've just had a horrendous thread about someone else who had used Car Craft, and when the financials where explained, the amount of money the OP was spending on his car was triple what it was worth...

I think the best advice was summarised in the previous post

Does that sound fair?

hmm, maybe its someone testing the forum after the james07 debacle. wanting to see if we would have advised not to goto somewhere like carcraft..

I think some local rags offer like, er, a swap section? I think you could prolly even make a post (an ad, rather) on Pistonheads.com too, I think they too have a swap section. Straight swap, no moola.
Someone, somewhere, will be dieing to get out of a small hatchback and into a larger motorway cruiser style wagon.
Best of luck.

OK, thx for the replies, tbh, I'm just stressed with all what's going on in my life (sorry for the moan) my wife's not worked for sometime, this job is what she needs, but the car issue is coming between us, I really don't want to get into more of a financial mess, I'm happy to do a straight swop, but the places I've been are not intrested.

You can get some very good examples for as little as a thousand. I'd recommend an old Focus or similar at this price point, they're good cars and nothing comes close at that budget.

You could always try explaining to your bank that you're trying to get yourself sorted etc. and that you need the car for it but you don't want to be tied down to a horrendous Carcraft (or similar) financial package. I expect they'll do all they can. :)
