Autotrader car interest - is this genuine?

Easy way to protect yourself, scam or not. Do not give away goods till the hard cash is in your hand.

A bankers draft doesn't equal cleared funds. Always best to phone the bank to ensure the funds have cleared. The scammers also like to overpay to allegedly cover shipping fees and ask for the remainder back in cash.

Jeez, I don't know why I bothered.
All I wanted was confirmation on what I thought was a scam letter since I'd never dealt with Autotrader before and my wife is actually dealing with it.
Now I know why I don't come in this elite forum.

Thanks to those with serious replies.

The advice has been overall quite helpful?

and as for the elitist motors forum    Surely GD is worse in every way imaginable?

lulz, around 2005 I had companies ringing up from my ad on autotrader saying they had buyers for my car but needed a £20 fee to be a broker, soon fired them off.

Personally I'd ignore any emails about cars and only deal with phone people, as you're far less likely to get a scammer calling up about it than emailing. :)

I don't even understand why you had to ask

Read the very opening line of the OP.
Too formal, shipping etc - I knew it wasn't right BUT my wife is dealing with it and since she never uses email she would probably get taken in.
I've printed out the email, circled a few things and told her what to look for.
Simples.

I on the other hand get at least 3 scam emails a day for the last nth years but since cars mean nothing to me I don't know how the Autotrader system works and if Autotrader generated emails are sent out and what language they use.
I was answered in the first reply and there's no need for posters to come on going LOL, LULZ etc.
I'm pretty sure those posters will NEVER get caught out by something in the future (or past).

A lot of people on these boards can't help but be idiots though, shame as often they can be nice and normal, then a simple question for reassurance comes along and they drop to complete buffoons. :/

The trouble with these kind of things is that when you really want to sell, they look more appealing/realistic so a reality check is always a good thing on here, but if you ask a question "You should know the answer to" then apparently checking is wrong, and you OBVIOUSLY should know better than to ask!

NAME: MR Dr.Scott Miller

If things seem to good to be true, as said they usually are, above is a prett typical example of what they do, thinking if the victim will fall for it, that adding Dr in will make it seem like a trustworthy professional man, although he would usually then take out Mr!

I don't deal with emails when selling a car and if I do get an email I just reply with my phone number and tell them to call me.

you lot are just being stupid now tbh.
dmpoole is not a first time internet user, he has been on this forum for long enough, seen enough scam threads from naive people and gets enough scam email himself.

there seriously was NO need for him to ask at all, other than trying to be funny like in GD where people STILL post threads 'jokingly' asking if they have won the european lottery without even entering.
which we can all be honest... they arent funny.

Also, aren't 'Mr's' regarded as higher than 'Dr's'? I thought so anyway.

Bit more complicated than that.. back when surgeons didn't go to medical school (they learned on the job as an apprentice) they didn't earn the right to be called Dr (they were more regarded as butchers). Later on, when they went to medical school, in a matter of pride, for some reason they decided that they would rather call themselves Mr than Dr. So once you qualify from medical school, you become a Dr; once you become a specialist registrar/consultant on a surgical firm (i.e. when you have become a full-time surgeon), many choose to become Mr once more. Equivalent-ranked medical doctors (those who do not do surgery) remain Dr throughout their careers.
So in the medical profession, you might say Mr is equivalent to Dr. But in real life, Dr is superior to Mr because you can be a Mr without having done a medical degree or got a doctorate - it takes more training to become a Dr, and so that title is held in higher regard than Mr.

Writing Mr Dr Scott Miller is just plain stupid though.

Hmm, some may know that my job title is a Careers Support Officer at The University Hospital of North Staffordshire and my instructions were quite clear.
Every day I liaise with health professionals and I have to be very careful who I call Dr & Mr and must never mix them up.
There are Dr's who are surgeons but most Mr's are surgeons but only Mr's are consultants and higher on the food chain.
eg
Dr Vas is a doctor
Dr Ahove is a doctor & surgeon
Mr Adjogatse is a doctor, surgeon & consultant
and then we have Professors who I'm not sure about.

Selling the car due to very sad circumstances, my condolences, it leaves me none the wiser as to why the OP had to ask though...

Cause I'm an idiot who wanted a 1 post reply.

It's not just consultants who can be Mr; when I was on an ENT rotation (surgical) at Stafford the registrars were also called Mr. Although thinking about it, the consultants I'm currently under (A&E) are Mr although they don't do surgery..

Medical student btw.

Gah it's too complicated lol :p
