Autotrader car interest - is this genuine?

Well it can't put them in a very strong position if you've raised concerns with them about a scammer, they've put your mind at rest by assuring you that the buyer is genuine, and then he scams you! I'm no lawyer, but IMO they wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

Having said that, it goes without saying, don't sell it to him if you're not comfortable going ahead with it. I'm sure you wouldn't, I'm just saying!

"we have contacted the buyer and he is genuine."

I'd definitely sell it after Autotrader sending me that, dmpoole has had a right result there.

Funnily enough I sent this one too and they told me to stay away from it and they would investigate further -

I was answered in the first reply and there's no need for posters to come on going LOL, LULZ etc.
I'm pretty sure those posters will NEVER get caught out by something in the future (or past).

There was absolutely no excuse for any of these ****-heads to have a go at you.

Still ****-heads. The manner they spoke to you was out of order, which is why I piped up earlier in the thread.

The opening post does appear to be a blatent scam, it would be interesting to get the headers from the email from the autotrader email, just to make sure!

I wouldn't take it as a guarentee however,

Pretty obvious it LOOKS LIKE a scam. Poor use of commas and use of a shipping company are clear indicators!

Fixed and it is a Doctor.
I work with enough Doctors to know how bad their grammar is and also yesterday I was talking to a Dr Richard Jackson who had the best Asian accent ever.

As you are so confident, have you sold it to this person yet? garenteed sale....

My wife privately sold it 2 days later.

LAURA NIMMO

It's a total scam. I got the same exact message from that person on the 29th of June about my SAAB. The follow up email said she was heavily pregnant and her husband was out of the country, but they wanted my car for their family. The email follow-up to that said she would give me £16,400 in total via Bankers' Draft, of which I would send £4,000 to them via Western Union for Shipping. This is just a new twist on the old scam.

I notified Autotrader, and they said it was a scam as well. I sent them the emails, and they have the proof. Anyone who would buy a car sight unseen without even driving it first is full of it.

I did say that Autotrader confirmed that Laura Nimmo was a scam BUT the original wasn't.

edit - No I didn't I said they would investigate but 1 day later they did confirm.

I humbly stand corrected. However, Malt_Vinegar, you got very lucky. You probably had the only one in about who can guess how many sales where the buyer didn't drive it. The only other way that could happen is at auction, of course. However, the main point was that the buyer wanted the extra £4,000 via Western Union. The cheque would clear, temporarily I might add, because eventually it would come back as fraudulent, leaving me on the hook for £16,400, plus no car. Once you send money via Western Union, you could pick it up anywhere, and you can't get it back. I asked them to ring me first. I then asked them to send me either a wire transfer or pay in cash, at which point the sale ended. Does this look familiar to anyone?

This was the second letter from "Mrs. Nimmo"

Good Afternoon,
Thanks for your quick response and am also excited to hear from you that the vehicle is still available for sale.
And thanks for the information you just gave about the vehicle and am quite delighted to hear from you that the vehicle is still in great conditions.
The reason why am purchasing this vehicle is because our family are expanding, cos we are expecting our first child.
I want you to send me your wishes in advance before the imminent arrival of the baby.
My self and my husband just need one additional vehicle.

Please i want you to email me more pictures if is still available both the exterior and interior.
Due to my condition i will not be able to view the vehicle at present because i'm heavily pregnant, and the distance as well.
My personal circumstances do not allow me to travel, like wise my husband is away on a business trip.
According to the Features of the vehicle and the Full Description of the vehicle which i saw on the advert page i'm fully satisfied.

I want you to accept my offer of £12,200 inclusive the advert fees just because I know what the worth of the vehicle and more so what you' ve stated about the vehicle details in the advert page and the maintenance of the vehicle you've spent so far since you bought the vehicle.
The only way you will release the vehicle to any one is when the cash is in your hand, i.e. payments cleared at bank, and withdrawn, which may take 3 to 5 working days.

We are located in a small city at Isle of Man.
I will only required your full name and your postal address.
I did NOT request for your bank details.
My preffered method of payment is by bankers draft in a (GBP) that's the only option and safest way for me to transfer CASH.

I hope to hear from you today in order to proceed further with the payment and shipping arrangements as soon as possible.
I look forward to hear back from you today.
Cheers
Mrs Nimmo

The third and last letter, and the the scam part.....

Good Evening,
Thanks for your response and i really appreciate that from you and am excited that you've made up your mind to sell the vehicle to me.
The money would CLEAR into your bank account before any transaction could take place.
You will also need some details from me in order to process the paperwork as soon as the FUNDS is CLEARED.
You will need my Title, My full name,my date of birth,My Postcode,Lastly my full address to which the car will be registered to including the postcode.

I shall provide all the details for you as soon as i have your's to enable the payment gets to you on time.

The shipping company will sign on my behalf all the registration form in section 8 so what you do is pop the registration form in the glove box so you have it with the MOT and service history. You'll then need to send it away to the DVLA for them to process it.

Make sure you retain section 10 when you send it, as this will confirm to anyone that the car is indeed mine .
I want you to mark my words that you i shall make provision for the bankers draft within 24HRS and you will receive the payment within 72HRS from Tomorrow.

Never mind my husband would ring you as soon as is back into the country i just want to consider the deal done before his arrival.
The vehicle would only be released and the title documents once your bank has confirmed the cleared funds.

Same day your bank has confirm the payment is cleared you deduct your asking price first and the balance left with you and withdraw that in cash and after you must've deduct the amount i offered you for the vehicle which is £12,200 out of the total amount deposited.

You take the fund left to any nearby local western union agency around you and send it to the shipping agent,i shall provide you their details as soon as the money is cleared into your bank account.

I shall give you £200 for your efforts and western union charges out of the shipping agent money all the shipping expenses would be my responsibility.

The shipping company and my auto mechanic will make use of the funds left to come down to your location for the pick up arrangements i.e shipping expenses as import duties and tax.
The shipping company will come along with a letter from me and proof of their identity i:e international passport and drivers license.

So right now am going to instruct my business associate to send you a bankers draft in total sum of £16,400 in your name and it's going to be post to you via a postal mail which had already cover your asking price.
I'll need your data for the Bankers draft, viz;

FULL NAME..

POSTAL ADDRESS..

MOBILE PHONE #...

LAND PHONE #

kindly mail me today to let me know if the vehicle is SOLD to me -
Thanks for selling to me.
Cheers
Mrs Nimmo
_________________________________________________________________

If the offer was genuine, why would the buyer ask me to send the shipping agent £4,000 via Western Union? That makes no sense, especially when I can ship a car across the Atlantic Ocean for about £1,000 or so. £4,000 to send a car to the Isle of Man? I doubt it.
