Street Fighter (SFIV, SSFIV, HDR)

Yeah, not much though as online play is pathetic compared to decent offline play and just not an environment worth my time learning to play in (I win easily through zoning online while offline the use of combos and aggression works a lot better), so unless I can find local hangouts I'll end up quitting SFIV.

The SF thread dropped to page 3

Is anyone still playing this apart from me? :p

Still play whenever my PS3 is on a few times a week.

Dunno why people say they are bored of the online, I play with people I know online and it is still great fun.

If you take it too seriously then it probably is no fun, just like most competitive online games a percentage of people will be much better than you (which is not fun to play for some people) and a percentage of people will use tactics you do not like (which is not fun to play for some people).

Like a lot of games played on OcUK after hammering it online for a couple of months most people are bored and will move on to the next game. This "fad" lasted a bit longer as a lot of people had not played 2D or decent beat--em up's for a while.

I will be online after the grand prix if you want a few games.

Someone sent me a PSN message last week to arrange another PS3 league/cup of some sort. I will check who it was and see the details.

I agree with all your points rp. If I took sf4 that serious I would have stopped playing it months ago after some of the beatings I took, but I stuck at it and now I can at least give a good game to anyone on ocuk. Would love to see how I handle Margarets Blanka or Balrog now, get that stick dual modded mate! ;)

Oh, and the person who msg'd you was me. :p Tbh I doubt there will be enough interest now but it might be worth a shot just to see how many people are up for another league. If you still have the table you made in excel, we can use that and I don't mind helping out, maybe confirming all the scores so you don't need to check each post. :)

ps. Just msg me anytime you see I am online, I'm always up for afew games.

If anyones getting tired/bored of SF4 theres no point in selling the game and the stick.

You might aswell keep the stick as there will be afew more Streetfighter games on the 360 yet to come

I See one of the high street chains are paying £24 trade in on SF4, thats more than I paid for it new lol and can also be had £2 cheaper than that new too. Just a heads up for those thinking of getting rid.

My pad is still here, didn't bother opening it, can't justify the cost for how much I now play SF4, since the update the online seems well off timing wise for me :( makes things a little annoying.

I still play every now and again, if you see me on and fancy a few rounds just shout :)

SF > Tekken since day 1. :D

The winner again was the same Balrog player as previously. The next one is June 14th, I intend to be there again. :)

ps. goukifafa had some INSANE balrog combos.

Who were you in those vids e36?

Dunno why people say they are bored of the online, I play with people I know online and it is still great fun.

Because I have played a wide variety of players offline, and there I can use links easily but online I get periodic lag spikes, which means using zoning characters like dhalsim or akuma I do a lot better, but I don't want to play that way as it's incredibly dull.

Online on SFIV severely limits the range of viable tactics (which is fine if turtling or zoning is your play style) if you can't get an amazing connection like the japanese players, but I swear this wasn't the case for HD Remix =/

Who were you in those vids e36?

Lol, unfortunately I only made it into the last 16, those vids were from the last 8 onwards. I was stuck using a 360 pad but the level of play from the last 16 up was quite high, I can't see myself getting into the last 8 ever unless I get a stick, practice loads more and learn some combos. All which I intend to do btw, so soon you'll be seeing me in one of them finals. ;):D

looks like people are starting to lose interest in this game? i certainly have and im very surprised to say it since i love beat em ups.

think ive said it before in this thread but the bottom line is they made street fighter WAY too easy and accessable. easy reversals, shortcuts and priority has ruined the game for me. i also disagree completely with the damage scaling, too rewarding for little effort. i dont have the patience to play how this game is played, zoners totally dominate this game. ill be playing this game very casually if anything now

roll on tekken :)

I've got exams and I'm guessing quite a few others have too so it's probably going to pick up again, I'll be back again in a week just need to get my exam over with before term.

There was another SF4 tourny today at gamerbase in Manchester. The final was Balrog vs Ryu, and Ryu won! AND the guy was using a fightpad, almost everyone else in the last 16 upwards had a fightstick.

I didn't do so well this time :o been practising on a stick for the past few days but I'm still rubbish with it so was back using a pad today. Good turnout again though, around 35-40 players once again.

I just played a little bit the other day in the championship mode.
Was a bit dissapointed. I thought it would be something akin to the knockout tournament in SSF2THDR.

Is there anything like that in SF4 with the last patch?
How does this champioship mode work exactly, I just won 3 games in a row and I got promtoed to G3-C or something. So effectively you just get paired off with whoever is in your rating bracket or something?

Cav, add me on: mpower07

I need some practice on the stick, I'm rubbish with it but I am not gonna give up yet.

Yeah championship mode is basically playing ppl in the same grade as yourself and advancing with each win. So you will only be meeting ppl on G3 atm, so thats anyone upto 2000GP. If you win your first game, you will then be searching for other players who are also in the second round like yourself. When you get to the final, you will automatically meet players who have also like yourself got to the final. The further you get, the more points you get, you just need to get to 2000GP and upto G2 for better competition.

G1 is like 15000GP I think and quite hard to get too. I've not played champ mode for ages now, got to about 3500GP, once I feel comfortable on the stick I will get back into it.

Thought I had you already on my list e36 but will check again.

Believe it or not, I STILL havent unboxed my stick yet and been messing with the pad.

May have a crack later tonight.

Get it open and shout me anytime for some friendlys. I hate playing against guile btw, there was a really good guile in the tourny today, he got to the final last time, think to the semi's this time. Both finalists from last time (Balrog & Guile) met in the quarters and this time Guile came out on top.

Just had a quick try of the fightstick on the PC with SF3 third strike and its working perfectly, awesome! :D

For those who will be interested in getting SF4 for the PC, the benchmark is out so you can run that and get some idea how the game will perform on your PC. Just google for it, it's easy to find, ~400MB download. :)

So.. I got some questions about this champnionship mode. Specifically CP and GP.

I understand that GP is basically an indication of where you are in the championship i.e. your rating.

But how are CP used to work out GP exactly? Is there a formula or something?

I just got into G2E yesterday (2000 GP) and my first match was against a 6000 GP mofo and thought "poop". But I still managed to beat him (Albeit by the skin of teeth!) the opponent was gracious and sent me a "gg" message.

But yes if someone could clarify that I would be grateful.

Also what are the brackets for GP points? I.e. what points are required for each level?

Have to say the championship mode has given SF4 a new lease of life for me.

But Im STILL playing it using my frikkin pad! Must get the tournament stick out but I am afraid since if I do the wife will be like "Oh my god you're not still playing with that are you..." or words to that effect :D

ojste - Sorry about yesterday buddy, I left my PS3 to install SF4 and left it on so I didnt see your invites (was watching Sky HD :D).

Perhaps we can have ourselves a game some other time!

Cav, CP's are not important at all really, its just an indication of the opponent you beat. Eg. If you beat someone on 5000GP, you will get that as CP and move onto the next round. It's GP's that matter and for winning you get just over 100GP, for losing in final ~50GP, losing before that ~20GP, losing in 2nd round ~5GP, losing first round... zero GP.

Welcome to G2 btw and there is some good competition to be had because now you can face anyone upto 15,000GP. I beat a 14,000GP Ken player in the final awhile back and uploaded the replay. :D Don't underestimate those who have just reached 2000GP because some are really good, and sometimes someone with over 10,000GP can be rubbish, mainly a lot of Sagat players. :p

ps. Still waiting for our games. ;)

ps2. Ojste where have you been, don't think you signed into PSN for agessss! (before yesterday)

I see thanks for the explanation e36.
Whatabout the points brackets for G2 -A, B, C, D E?
(Dare I ask what they are for G1 and the super league?)

Btw how come you managed to upload your replay? Whats the stipulation?
(I read somewhere its something like getting 5000CP in a championship or something?)

Did you use to play this on a 360 e36? I dont seem to have you on my friends list (is your nick mpower07 or something)?

Think I should fire this back up huh??..........

Haven't played in ages, think I needed a break and was getting fed up with ddgy online matchmaking....

You guys still all on regularly??
