Quicktime wont play Xvid

perian for the win...
would be nice if perian added some extra control functionality to QT too... the thing i miss in perian compared to VLC is the ability to do small medium and large jumps forward and back (easy to skip intros or back up a few seconds if i miss a subtitle on some anime)
are there any plugins which add this sort of thing?

If you are using a Macbook, with a touchpad. 2 handed swipes, held down for different periods of time do multispeed fast forward and reverse. Very easy once you know how. After a while you know how much to swish you r hand to skip how much. Hard to explain, try it and you will understand. Did it by accident the 1st time, I am sure there is some Apple support doc on how it is all done.

Another vote for Perian, can't fault it, that's the only thing I've needed to install and Quicktime is the only media player I need 
unfortunately, thats not an option as i'm on an iMac, however i did discover that you can do that using the j, k and l keys
