Finding out who I was insured with

I'm looking to get another bike soon, but it's been about 2.5 years since I last had one.

Question 1 - How long does NCD last once a policy has ended if no further insurance is taken out?
Question 2 - Given that I've had a paperwork cull and can find nothing relating to it, is there any easy way to find out who my last insurer was as I cannot remember at all!

I have a feeling that I'll be starting again from scratch, but confirmation would be appreciated.

Bugger. Back to square one then, but this time with 10 points.
Maybe looking at a 1000cc bike isn't such a good idea this year.

Still grates that my 12 years NCD from the car doesn't benefit me, but any claims or points picked up from the car shafts me.

The joys of insurance I suppose.

Cheers

I sold the last 1000cc bike when I got the third SP30 and the 10th point. I have since drastically altered my driving style so don't think I'll be at risk now. Also I'm not talking 1000cc sports, more likely dual sport/giant traillie.

You can use http://www.askmid.com/ to check who you were insured with maybe.. I know it works for some bikes but not all seem to be registered. Im not aware of any free way to check though sadly (this has a small charge to use).

Edit: Maybe not, it might be locked to todays date to check.. If you know anyone who works for an insurance company they could find out for you. :)

Hmm, 10 points? All it takes is one slip of the speed dial and you could lose your license; personally unless I needed it for work or something I'd be tempted to hold off on driving anything until a few of the older points have expired. Is it really worth the risk of having to retake your test? You'll have to drop all those bad habits, and the instructors hate you if you've lost your license :p

You dont have any bank statements with direct debits or payments going out that might relate to it?

Not going back that far. I keep 12 months and shred the rest.

Regarding the points, 3 have expired for totting up, 4 going in September and the last 3 going in December. Then obviously a further 12 months before they can be removed. Unfortunately insurance hold that against me for 5 years.

It seems that Fox is right and any NCD I had has expired anyway, so I'll be insuring with no NCD anyway.
