Something munching on my shorts...

So last week I did some washing, hung it up to dry, and then took it to my room and stuck it in a heap. Yesterday I decided to put it all away. Halfway through, I found what looked like the spent skin of something on a pair of shorts. On close inspection, next to this was a small, white elongated blob that recoiled when I touched it.

I grabbed both shell and beast in a tissue and slung them out of the window, as the option to kill them with fire was unavailable.

This brings me on to my questions;

1) What was it? Initially I suspected a baby woodlouse, but after a trip to Wikipedia I'm thinking a maggot.

2) Why did I not find any more? I was under the impression that insects reproduced in large numbers. Is this pair of shorts covered in eggs then? :( How did this survive attached to my shorts; they aren't exactly a great food source?

Help me solve this mystery!

Might be a carpet beetle, their larvae look a bit like maggots.

Yeah, sounds likely according to Wikipedia which states that they have a particular penchant for clothing.

Where your clothes fully dry when you dumped them in a heap?

Knowing me, they were probably a bit on the damp side. That would make a nice 'n' cosy environment for one of the little cluckers I guess.

Weird I had 3 pairs of socks that looked like they had been munched too - I will keep an eye out for white oozes jostling around!

Your willy fell off.

See, now that's what I would naturally assume, but I just visited the facilities for a tinkle and it's very definitely still affixed, thank heavens.

I think today's lesson is that Primark shorts are an illustrious breeding ground for baby unpleasantries, possibly due them being made out of flies and horse hair in the first place.
