Sister put unleaded in diesel tank - quick help needed!

A Y reg I guess will have the old tddi engine, ancient thing, and will probably be fine with the tank topped up to dilute the petrol down

It wont be any problem, just fill it to the top with diesel.

Yep. My Dad put £10 worth of UL in his 530d a few years ago. Topped it up with with Diesel.

Said it was noticably faster for that tank, just didn't idle as well. After that no issues for the next 80k then he sold it. Probably still going strong now.

It wasn't driven anywhere with the high concentration of petrol though as it was topped up straight away.

Agree with the above , brim it with diesel and itll be fine .... (itll run like a badgers arse for that tank)

It'll be ok. Syphon out the petrol and brim it with diesel. Yes it's going to be on old non common rail TDI engine so it can handle all kinds of abuse.

5L petrol in a 50L tank? I'd brim it! And brim it again every quarter tank for a few times so you're not running a full 50L of 10% petrol through it.

Am i not right in saying if you put petrol in a diesel Turbo it runs like a funny car for about 5 mins and then makes a herendous bang?

This. Don't think its commonrail is it?

I'd be so confident in my advice here, that would I actually have any money, I would offer to pay for any repairs should any damage occur from following it.

As I dont, I cant.

A friend put £20 worth of petrol in a diesel 56 plate focus that had half a tank of diesel in, he drove it about a 1/2 a mile to the local wickes store where on leaving realised what he had done when the car would not start.

The car was towed to his house where a fitter from the place he works at drained the tank, he spent a while priming the system and letting the car turn over on a H/D battery and eventually it started up, was a bit sluggish but soon got back to its old self, he used a fair bit diesel addative for a while but 6 months on and the car still runs great.

Would it be logical to assume that since diesel is more dense than petrol, and the outlet is at (or near) the bottom of the tank, it will see very little petrol - far less than you might suppose with a 10:1 ratio diesel to petrol - thus needing frequent topups for quite some time to lower the concentration of petrol to the point you can run the tank mostly to empty before filling up? Presumably only turbulence will cause the petrol to enter the fuel pipe.

All that happens is it thins the diesel out slightly.

People add unleaded petrol in far greater quantities to diesel than that in colder climates to get their cars to run.

Petrol in Derv = No Probs.
Derv in New Petrols = Big probs.

Ignore the scare mongerers who don't know there **** from there elbow & fill the tank to three quarters, NOT FULL as you want room for it to mix. Then drive it & have a damn good laugh at any smoke that comes out when you floor it.
All it will do is Lubricate parts of the engine that are otherwise not lubricated as well. :p
It's good fun. :D

A fivers worth of petrol is only just over a gallon, just brim it with diesel and she probably won't even notice the difference, it will run fine. Lots of ignorance and scare stories on this topic I see, but the Focus is not common rail, a small amount of petrol in the fuel won't hurt it.

If TDDI no worries, fill and go. If TDCI and it has been driven I'd be a bit concerned bit I'd still just fill it up and hope for the best since I wouldn't want to spend £hundreds on draining it.
