What is the deal with men wearing long shorts nowadays?

Is it just me that thinks wearing shorts which go right down to the knees or below is rather stupid? Surely the point of wearing shorts is because they expose more skin and feel cooler than long trousers. Or failing that because they are more comfortable and give you freer range of movement than wearing long trousers.

Do men who wear long shorts all summer have tanned lower legs and white upper legs? I saw in an article the other day that Ronaldo (ex Man Utd) was criticised for wearing short shorts because they are supposedly feminine. No they aren't feminine, it just make more sense and as he pointed out, means he gets more of a tan.

Did most men suddenly decide one day that long shorts made more sense, or are they just fashion sheep?

They used to not so long ago, and nobody thought it was anything unusual. But I agree, today it would raise eyebrows because it isn't considered the done thing.

My loose fitiing shorts come to about 3" above the knee.

I love to go commando when wearing them.

I like men in these long length shorts, just so long as the person wearing them has correct shoe-age and no socks. Sandals but not trainers, with clean feet and tidy nails. The trousers should be linen or cotton, not shell suit stylie and may have pockets but not baggy ones stuffed full of phones/ ipods etc.

Shorter shorts with ugly / hairy legs is horrible, so the extra length (ooh matron) gives a more attractive appearance and allows those with perhaps skinny legs to wear anything other than full length trousers in the summer.

LOL, I'm wearing shorts which reach my knees today.

They're really baggy so there's plenty of airflow, not sweaty like jeans.

And the don't suck up water from the ankles when I'm in the boat.

Don't have any long shorts nor do I have short shorts as in Ronaldo style. He just looks gay, period. I'd sooner wear long shorts than hot pants (Ronaldo).

That's another thing I've never understood, bashing men like Ronaldo or Beckham who are undeniably heterosexual, because they choose to dress how they want and not conform to the narrow accepted view that the rest of the sheep deem acceptable

I think a proper comparison would be if someone spent the entire summer wearing a T-shirt which came halfway down their upper body, and only the exposed part was tanned.
