Tesco / supermarket night pay

Prepared to give your life away and work like a bitch for them. I heard they dont pay NI for you or something?

I did not know about the NI but I need a second job so I can pass some
more exams and maybe get a better job.
Thanks for the info ;)

Yes - so technically you are self-employed (but spend your time doing what Aldi want) which has more benefits than poxy National Insurance does ;)

And lets be honest - whats NI worth these days considering how much you pay into it.

I don't think that's true though somehow (as it bascially means they can send you home whenever they like - and expect you to come in when ever they need you - and fire you without question/no hol pay/no sick pay etc) - but from a business perspective it would be ideal (although I don't know anyone that works there as they have so few staff in their stores)

Is pay at Tesco's not fixed accross all stores?

It varies with the region, atleast I hope it does as im worried if not. Im currently on £6.86 hour as a driver and we get about 50/60p hour more than the shop floor workers. I do 8 hours of "night" work every 4 weeks (between 10pm-11pm) and it works out at an extra £1.27 per hour. IIRC it also increases again between midnight and 6am.

Day rate is £6.80 for over 18's at the moment. So he'll be on about 6.50 for the probationary period.
+ the night rate obviously.

Sundays are time and a half, kickass because it's like £10.20 an hour.

It is £6.50 normal day pay (IE 1+year service), £6.20 ish for the first year - I made my self unclear:p

Those on under a year of service think yourself lucky, they scrapped the 1st 6month lower pay and you now get your discount card after 6 months.

Im currently doing nights at sainsburys before i go to uni in sep, but im on £7.75 doing a 49 hour week.

That's pretty good pay for someone your age. I worked at Sainsburys before Christmas (I'm 20) and they paid something like £5.90/hour. To take the **** even more so, I was working with younger lads still at school doing exactly the same job as me who were on £4.60 an hour.

Appologies for a small revival but I have the answer right here! This is the basic rate of nightpay after the July pay increase and does not include location pay.

How about I lay this subject/thread to bed with the Facts. :D

I work 4 nights a week from Friday to Monday, You get more for working the Saturday & Sunday night & including ALL bonuses & any other guff, The hourly rate I TAKE HOME is 8 pound for every hour I work.
Forget all the crap that is what I get in the hole in the wall for every hour I work 8 ******** quid. :(
Trust me I work like a ******* Donkey for it as well as I lift all the Veggy & Fruit. :(

It's work though, Honest work & honest work I do well. Anybody that walks into my store hopefully will see & appreciate that.
I have to think about the other benefits that off set the **** poor rate of pay for a Dude my age.
Costs me nowt to get there.
Canteen dinner & pudding costs £1.40 for Plenty.
Work indoors in a steady environment that Never changes so work/pay is not effected by weather, cold etc
Staff discount on Loads. In store, mobile tarriffs, House/car insurance & untold other stuff like health care sports centre/gym memberships, Literally untold.
Share options. Free shares & opt in to buy more.
Uniform. Never have to buy clothes for work only foot wear.
Work Nights. Less customers, Less management so less hassle & more Lolage.

Having said all that it is a battle to go & do my job, It's hard on the head, Body & the heart but like I said earlier it's work & it's Honest work.
Funny enough though I do like my section, My Fruit & Veg looks Lovely when I've finished & when the management or other members of staff tell me it looks great which they often do it makes me feel good. :o
I s'pose being honest I get off on the fact that it is the most important section in the store & I take Full responsibility for it on my own. When you walk in my store the first thing you see is my section & it Beams at you.

I should add that it only beams until the Hordes reach it. :(
I like my customers & they keep me in work but I would like to be there to pretty it up through the day as well. :p:p:p

Thought you may be interested to see what Stobart (who deliver to Tesco) pay their drivers as a comparison....

Day rate (Monday to Friday) £7.20 p/hr
Night Rate (Monday to Friday) £8.10 p/hr
Day Rate (Saturday) £9.50 p/hr
Night Rate (Saturday) £11.00 p/hr
Day and Night rate (Sunday) £10.50 p/hr
Day & Night Rate (Bank Holidays) £11.00 p/hr

I'm on a different contract (which I'm staying on if I can help it!) - £9.10 p/hr Mon- Fri Nights

And £10.71 p/hr Saturday, Sunday & Bank Holidays.

All the above are before deductions.

I work in Tesco and get extra pay for location (near london)

As of 5th July I get (2.5% pay increase)

£7.15 p/h daily

Sundays = £10.70 an hour

I'm 19 and work weekends only.

Just got back from a 10-4 :)

To those who work in other stores saying they earn more than that on daily flat rate......according to the posters in the tesco canteen listing how much competitors pay their staff, Tesco pay the highest with John Lewis second.

How many hours do you average a week?

tesco as im aware does pay the highest in the retail business.

new pay rise is 2.5% plus 2.5% night premium.

i work tuesday to saturday and bring home £1000 a month.

the perks tesco are good and you also get your free shares every year.

any other questions then please ask.
