I currently use a Nvidia gts 8800 640mb, it has no problems with any games on max settings, ive read people have said it wont run crysis on max or mirrors edge or some other games, but thats just complete nonsense. I will soon be looking for a better card anyways with a budget of 250, what shall i get peeps, nvidia only i can't stand ati.

My setup if it helps to choose

Wolfdale e8400 3ghz intel core duo ( overclocked@ 4ghz ) https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-192-IN
Asus P5Q motherboard https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MB-277-AS
8gig dominator corsair (2lots) https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=MY-148-CS
Coolermaster Real Power 700 watt modulas psu https://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CA-148-CM

I run vista 64bit, i game on a viewsonic 22inch widescreen monitor 1920 x 1080 using a hdmi cable. As i say the 8800 gts 640mb has no problems and plays all games on max smoothly, i will be getting a new card in a month or so. Thanks all for your advice.

Also temp in my case , cpu and gpu is fine. :)

If you say your card "has no problems and plays all games on max smoothly", why are you interested in upgrading? :)
There are new cards around the corner - if your setup is having no troubles, hang on a bit until you'll actually see a noticeable improvement!

Or, spend the money on a holiday...

Ahh! If I were spending that amount of money I'd go for GTX 260's if your motherboard can do SLI. However (even though you mention you're not an ATI fan) the 4870s are complete bargains at the moment and should handle your screen res with ease...
£250 is a lot on cards considering new kit is due in a couple more months!

there shouldn't be any reason for hating ATI, at least they don't rebrand, but thats something different.

the GTX260s are a capble card and are like best value alone side with the cable HD4870 1Gb.

btw i am no fanboi I m just after something that has the most power for the money.

If thats the case lots will have changed by then the ATI 5800's will only be weeks away so would expect quite a few drops in prices from both companies to clear stock/stay competative.

good for you nvidia rely on people to have blind loyalty to bridge the gaps between the stonkingly good series

say 6000's and 8000's and thanless than wonderful gpu's that they produce now and gain

There is nothing wrong with ATI cards, nothing at all.

My last Nvidia card was a 8800GTS and i loved it, one of the best cards that i've ever had, but as soon as i built my new machine i went for the 4870x2 and i've never looked back. The 4870x2 blew the Nvidia cards out of the water and still is. The only card that can outperform the 4870x2 at the moment is a 295 but that's £100 more expensive and doesn't really give that much extra.

Your a fool for not considering getting a ATI card, as they are top of the game at the moment.

Tbh this crazy nonesense about nvidia fan boys, is getting ridiculous, has anyone now noticed the rise of ati fan boys?

Although this OP is a fool.

Also I would very much beg to differ that the 8800 does run all games at max settings on 1920. I don't think it would.

I have the same card as the OP and it struggles at anything above 1680x1050(?) if you start to use much anti aliasing, even on old games like Oblivion.

But then, most of us here already know that.

Lol what a post. :D

A fair few people have got ATi at the moment because they offer the best bang for buck. Now, if Nvidia got there act together and offered better pound for pound perfomance, then people would recommend them.

There's no point in brand loyalty when it comes to PC components.

Its only common sense that this round ati have a lot of guys sticking up for them as they have produced great cards and its all down to ati why we have such great options at great prices. Nvidia like wise have produced good cards this round but would they have been selling at the prices they are now if ati had not forced them too? I think the answer would be a big no.

Theres also a lot more nvidia guys just drop into threads and say ati is rubbish stay well clear off them who have not even owned an ati card so somebody has got to put the record straight.
