Hiya all,

I currently have a arctic freezer 7 working on my rig however over the next week im changing a lot of my components and im going with an antec 1200 case, anyways im after some advice on which cooler to go with in my new build? People have advised me to use the thermalright 120 extreme and others have advised the tuniq tower 120, what do you guys think? Is my current cooler ok? Also my motherboard has a 4 pin connection for my cpu fan, i believe this is for pwm fans, is this correct? and would i have to get one of these pwm fans for the thermalright if i was to buy one or could i just run with a normal 3 pin fan??

Id reccomend the thermalright ultra extreme, ive used the freezer pro and the tuniq tower, got much better cooling with the ultra, the 4 pin header does indeed support pwm fans but its still possible to run a 3 pin fan from it, but you may not be able to control its speed.

What sort of temps does your cpu average, my cpu is notoriously warm
My q9550 idles at 31-31-29-29, load temps at 3.6ghz of 54-51-45-45

Oh yea and do you have to buy a seperate adapter to fit the fan to the thermalright
The thermalright comes with a set of wire clips to hold the fan in place, i use the black model that has 2 sets of fan clips to enable push pull.

Nice temps there Setter, what vcore do you need for that clock? It looks either your TRUE or you CPU could do with a lap though, it's probably the base of the TRUE to be honest ;)

Cheers. Vcore as set in bios is, 1.21250, 1.192 windows idle and 1.200 at load, (1.200 vid chip) odd temps are more than likely caused by the cpu's ihs being a bit wonky, my TRUE black is already lapped, as was my previous q6600, both to 2000 grit, load temps on the q6600 at 3.8ghz were 68-68-62-62, prior to lapping they were 81-81-72-72 iirc.

Were those temps with the 2000rpm silent eagles on the TRUE or the PWM model? I've just bought a second hand q6600 which can reach 3.6ghz without problem and I'm just wondering which sharkoons would be best to use on my TRUE, CPU and TRUE will be lapped btw.

Cheers
Mikey

Yep the q6600 was cooled by two 3 pin 2000 rpm silent eagles of a fan controller, switched them over to front intakes and now use the pwm silent eagles on the TRUE with the q9550.
