MKV (X264) to XviD..?

If I want to convert a 1080p (or 720p) x264 MKV to XviD (avi) what program should I use?
One that works on the GPU would be awesome!

Xilisoft Video Converter does pretty much all formats known to man. You can get a 30 day trial for free.

Why download/rip to nice high quality 720/1080 res, then decide to shrink it down? Defeats the point somewhat no?

Lack of space (planning ahead, only really really good films are kept in HD)
Converting from DVD to XviD doesnt give the same quality as HD to XviD does

True that, but why rip to 720/1080 at all then? Just go straight from BR/HD-DVD to 480p x264? x264 is miles better than Xvid at any resolution. Alternatively, if your downloading (shhhh) just download the increasingly popular BRRip format which weigh in at around 1.6gb and save yourself hours re-encoding.

Yep, I hate waiting though so I need a quicker solution ready
