Arrested for asking a policeman his badge number

The problem is for the police is that if the one idiot refuses to give his number and then tries to arrest the woman, they other police have to help out, even though many of them had no idea why she was being arrested or what started it.

They are trained to work as a team and do so without asking questions.

Although the whole 'watching the watchers' seems a little bit childish.

That sort of policemen/women just do my head in.! when theres real criminals out there.

They would be out arresting real criminals, but that lot are protesting, and if they werent there, the protestors would be supergluing themselves to the powerstations doors

I do wonder where that came from. Doesn't seem like typical reporting to me. I also don't hold the protesters blameless - getting in the face of a Police officer is unlikely to get you in their good books. As for the Police action, I don't really know enough to comment due to the extremely one-sided report. We'll see what the IPCC have to say on the subject.

She's a ****. And her friend could do with taking certain pills that chill one out.

you shouldn't need to ask a policeman his badge number it should be clearly displayed at all times failure to do so is a disiplinary offence. Not saying the protesters are not morons but any policeman who hides his numbers or refuses to give them is trying to hide something.

I'm not sure if being shirty to the Police is actually very clever. They will always get you for something. I think she's lost a bit of reality and in too deep tbh : "we watch the watchers" - I mean come on this is not X files.

Lol at taking photos of the Police and stuff. Not provoking too much on top of being on land they're not meant to be on etc.

yep. Most of these protesters are looking for trouble. but that does not mean police should not follow procedure. As with a lot of demonstrations recently. The police force need to crack down on displaying badge numbers and if needed start sacking people to get the message out you don't hide them.

The video lies?

The video show a woman being arrested with little footage of what occurred beforehand.

Let's pretend that I was the arresting officer and let me use poetic licence but exactly how it would be.

' Right. What have we got ? '

' Sarge, this is Miss X. We were on duty at the climate camp and this woman asked me for my police number so I arrested her. '

' Erm, could I have a word constable ? '

In other words, there is no law whatsoever that prevents anyone asking for a police officers number. To arrest for such an offence is unlawful and I would personally endorse any complaint against a cop that would be such an idiot to make up a law on the spot.

We have the word of the female arrested and also the famously non-biased and pro-police Guardian. * sarcasm *

I wait with interest for the full story to come out because I do not believe that it is as described by the complainant and the Guardian.
