Arrested for asking a policeman his badge number

I saw 2 women not acting aggressive in anyway..... who had the charges dropped against them...... being manhandled to the ground and actually spending a few days in prison too.

However you edit that footage I am pretty sure the Cops will not come out looking very good.

Yes you can.

Compare " reasonable force " between US and UK law enforcement and perhaps you will realise the futility of your post. No offence intended.

when/how can I and the people of the west midlands sack the head of police?

And as you always say "reasonable force " I am the little guy of the family 5ft 10in now reasonable force to me is a push to my older brother Yan
reasonable force to him would knock a person about 4-6ft
and reasonable force to my little brother Big brad(as they call him)
who is 6ft 7in 24 stone and not a ounce of fat would most likely knock me out..so please dfine reasonable force.

And I can't wait to sack the jead of the WMP...

Did you miss the point of the quote? Reasonable force in the USA would constitute shooting you, possibly killing you. NOW compare reasonable force in the USA to what you just described.

I must have been really luck as pretty much every police officer I have ever met hasn't abused his powers when dealing with me.

Based upon what? Or is it an internet statistic?

I would say its a minority, albeit a disturbing number.

Sometimes I see the trouble with the police is down to inconsistency (I admit this is a very hard thing). If someone annoys them at the previous crime, you could be the unlucky one who he vents the anger out on, when in any other day he could simply give you a rollocking. From what I have seen (be it a trimmed down video), the police is not using necessary force, theyre are few situations when you need to put your hands round someone neck if they are incable of using their hands.

If that was the sole situation, I believe she was wrongfully arrested, if she was drun kI could imagine her being arrested for that, however police must relise that in the job they do they need to be able to be identified. Even if you do not agree with what the woman is doing, he could have deflated the situation by giving a badge number, as I believe she would still ask questions, but she wouldnt have got the photographs which seemed to tip him over. The means of the arrest, seemed to be wrong, and if that is the case then hopefully he will be suspended or relieved of dutys.

I see these people as a minority, but it is still scary that people like this exist with the power they have, as in reality they can effect your entire life, some people do not cope with being arrested well and can become depressed as a result, and their careers can suffer.

Firstly, why would you want to sack the head of WMP ? What bearing does it have on this thread ?

To try to answer the second part it is using the least amount of force to get the job done for a lawful arrest or execution of duty that is reasonable in the circumstances.

It is for the officer on the ground to justify it.

Well, it's weird how one sided those reports are. If this is protests by Kingsnorth in Kent then what you have to remember is that Eon had an extended court injunction prohibiting environmental campaigners away from a power station. Knowing fully of the risk, Camp for Climate Action went ahead with their protest and surrounded the station for over a week. Entire Police force from Medway and whoever was available in Kent - total of 1400 officers from 26 forces were put on 24 hour rosters, recalled from holidays and had pre-booked days off cancelled just so they could attend to several hundred time wasters protesting their outrage at 240V flowing in their sockets and other related 21st century benefits while repeatedly trying to force their way in against court injunction with intent to cause criminal damage. Over 50 people were arrested that week for doing stupid things.

What I'm trying to say. It's not like she was walking around with her buddies, singing Jesus songs and smelling flowers, she then met group of Policemen and took interest in their badges and numbers, preparing for the evening of sudoku around the camp. Try that trick ANYWHERE IN THE WORLD. Seriously, try sending some sandal wearing munchkin lady from Cornwall to go around police cordon in the middle of action to remove illegal protesters storming power source and tell her to ask the forces to "identify themselves" while her buddy takes pictures. I dare you. Just try. And then we'll see in how many cases you can sob about "they pressure pointed me to the ground". It's laughable. It's trivial. The lady deserves solid beating with led filled batons just to be reminded every now and then they are Police Force, not her chaperones for summer bonfire and those seven days were not exactly book club meeting in woodstock.

And while we are at it - press should stop referring to those things as "environmental campaigns" and other farmazones like "activists boarded coal ship". Environmental terrorism isn't any more "campaign" than Basra is "fitness holiday destination". Capturing someones ship on British waters and removing crew from control is called piracy, not boarding, and is outlawed since 19th century. Everywhere. Perpetrators, in effect, should be referred to, at the very least as pirates or privateers, depending on whether they work for themselves or on behalf of larger group. At no point term "campaigners" or "protesters" applies to their activity. It would be an oxymoron. Like calling Russell Brandt "comedian". Or calling Jordan "artist and book writer"

The officer still should have given his badge number if requested, this in itself is wrong. Does anyone know the outcome of this, or is it case pending?

the video, edited as it may be certainly doesn't seem to portray the police in a good light. Hopefully more details will actually emerge and appropriate action is taken whatever that may be.

Once again we see our honourable boys in blue taking down the hardened, armed criminal ......... oh hang on, ..., it's more like, once again we see the unprofessional, thuggish behaviour of our police force against the ordinary population who any question about their tactics or behaviour.

I have less and less respect for these ****s who feel that they can manipulate the situation because they don't like being watched or asked a simple question. Never mind "hippies, who got what they deserved!", this is something that us ordinary people should be taking note of and making sure that such unprofessional behaviour gets seen by all.

I'm sorry Von but how on earth you can try to justify this **** is beyond me; I feel that you are a reasonable guy but ..... come on man! once again, the ordinary (maybe difficult) citizen gets abused and 'fantasy' charges made up to allow them to be removed by unreasonable force.

As ever, I believe that these women may be misguided or even foolish but if that is how our police force now operates (more and more examples), I seriously fear for my and other people's freedom and safety!

As I said in my other post in FL you can sack the head of police if you think
he or his officers are doing a bad job. Here(as I said) you can't.

Come on now whats reasonable force to a small guy and whats reasonable force to a big guy is a lot.

But then your suggestion was to move to an American style. Which i have to admit liking for the ability to vote in sheriffs (obviously using a different name :p )

However, the American version of reasonable force has to be said to be the same for smaller and larger people. I think no matter your size the impact of a gun shot would be close enough that differences wouldn't matter.

You seem to have missed skipped over a key part in your rhetoric. She WAS NOT a climate protester. Nor was she with them. She was from FIT watch, a group which monitors the behaviour of police teams amassing information and through it intimidating people who have usually committed no crime and have no intention of doing so.

I do hate the 'rest of the world excuse' that keeps cropping up when this sort of thing is filmed. We are supposed to be civilised above the levels of behaviour of police in these countries and it does no favours justifying bad behaviour by playing it off against foreign comparators.
