Hi looking for a new mp3 and need to make sure that the sound quality is the best, not to bothered with other features like wifi and apps/games.

Been looking at the Sony NWZ-X1060 32GB as from reviews seems to be much better than the ipod touch.

Any suggestions otherwise I'll buy the sony soon,

Thanks

Getting the Sony in a couple of weeks. If you want to wait until then I'll be able to tell you, but from what i've read on reviews it's supposed to sound great.

I'm using Sony 'X' and i can tell the sound signature much better than my Ipod Touch, bigger sound stage, better high, mid, vocal and also lower end :)

Some users mentioned that sound roughly the same or even slightly better than Ipod paired with headphone amp i.e. Mustang, etc.

I'm using mine with IE7 and ripped my cds with dbpoweramp to .aac 320kbps and i might try .mp3 320kbps as some ppl say .mp3 sound a bit more airy.

Youtube application works excellent and quite fast as well. Browser not as good as Ipod Touch and also apps/games.

You should get it and you won't be dissapointed and if you can afford it, get IE7 or IE8 if you can stretch your budget or maybe UM3X :D

Once you get it, order Easyi screen protector as well, it comes with 3 pair for front and rear and fit perfectly apart slightly over a bit near the rear bottom but it doesn't bother me at all. You don't even notice that there's screen protector at the front either and the touch screen works perfectly fine like without the screen protector :)

Any more info just let me know :)

Tested a X1060 the other day. I can't compare it to an iPod since I've never used anything better than the Touch. It's a very nice media player and definatly worth the money. Comes with a OLED screen and the touch screen is nice and responsive. Sound quality is great but I was only using some crummy earphones.

Battery seems last forever actually :D

Last longer than my Ipod Touch 32gb because OLED screen and also probably smaller screen :)

One dissapointment that Noise Cancelling function only works with the supplied headphone which i think still really good headphone for supplied headphone surprisingly :)

i got a sony nwz a828
sq and battery life is great
earbud things with them are very nice but lead is a bit short and do like to tangle

Have to agree, sound quality on Sony Walkmans is good (with right earphones).

Also, found some EQ tweaks for my particular model (NWZ-A729) @ Anythingbutipod.com forums ;)

Got a Sony NWZ-A818 - still one of the best sounding mp3 players about! iPods sound bad - iRiver/iAudio sound good but not quite right... Sony sounds good what ever music you put on it.

Got the same player here. It does indeed sound great but apparently the X series is noticeably better. You may also want to look at the Cowon iAudio S9 as well which is highly regarded by many.

Erm... sonys? You're all kidding me right?

Check out Cowon matey, I have a D2, the S9 is also meant to be very very good.

Also pair it with these - Etymotic ER4-P

nope, we arent.

i used to own a D2. have they sorted out the lack of adjustment below 80hz yet?

Not yet, but I would personally go for the S9 now. I bought D2 and the S9 came out days later!!! S9 is one of the best looking & sounding mp3 players by far in my opinion.

have you tried an s9 against something like the sony 818?

Indeed. I find the S9's interface is much nicer and the device itself feels much more well made.

As for sound quality, I find the s9 gives the most amazing clarity I have come across while still delivering deep bass. The sony delivers quite good bass, but I can't hear all of the same features in a music with it in terms of clairity.

Most people wont notice it, I think it's down to my headphones.

No we're not m8 :)

If you go to the highly rated mp3, amp, iem etc forum and you can see that lots of ppl say that Sony 'X' is one of the best player out there and even similar sound to Ipod + LOD + Mustang amp.

Lots of ppl there also say that Cowon players are really good as well but when they compare the D2 or maybe S9 not sure they say that without BBE+ Cowon sound slightly thinner, smaller soundstage and less airy compare to Sony 'X' :D

I use mine with IE7 and i can say that the high, mid, vocal so clear and also the bass so clean as well and not overpowering. When i change with HD555 the sound just so amazing as already around 200+ hrs burn in :D Can't wait til my IE7 fully burn in so can have similar sound :)

Oh also with SOny 'X' you need to use more than 20 hrs to get the best advantage and this is the first time i heard player with burn in to get the best sound. I noticed on mine as well and also lots of ppl on that forum :D

I know that's what i thought as any digital processing to add on top of your pure loossless music will totally ruin it.

Anyway i will go and have a listen of my mate's S9 tomorrow and will use the same loossless file with my IE7 and will let you know here.
